Hey all!
Another day, another music video reaction. For this blog I am going to reviewing one of YUNGBLUD's newest singles 'acting like that' as the music video came out on the 21st January 2021!
At the beginning of the video, you could see that the content had been made to look like it was nighttime as it was incredibly dark, and there were colourful lights and beams throughout the video. There was a short bit of dialogue after YUNGBLUD's character stumbled off the bus and spoke to his friend (MGK) on the phone...after drunkily talking to one of the zombies around him saying 'I need the phone box...goodnight' - without noticing that it was a zombie. This added a comedic effect to the music video which is always nice to see in music videos!
Some of the opening lyrics to the song were about star signs, with MGK singing the line 'you're a taurus I'm a libra' - so whether he was trying to explain the compatability of those signs, or he just wanted to show his understanding of the signs, it was a cool addition to the song. Other lyrics include 'you're way too hot to be acting like that' which align with the title of the song, and this could either relate to people that they love and know who are acting differently to how these guys generally know their behaviour to be like, but could also relate to fangirls or stalkers, as further lyrics go on to say 'I don't wanna talk like that, you're asleep outside my house'. I'm still in shock that YUNGBLUD is only 23 years of age, and he has already got such a distinct personality, dress sense and unique style, which is great to see in today's music...and he has a massive influence on young people who listen to this type of music regularly, so they need to ensure they are sending out positive messages, or helping those young people deal with any problems they might have, whether it be to do with love, money, fame or anything else!
I also loved some of the camera angles/shots of the drummer, with orange tints and lighting making the scene look quite dusty, but in a really cool way! This type of rock and roll/scream music isn't the type of music I generally listen to, but I think with a lot more younger artists coming into the music industry, I think my views have changed, and I feel a lot of the rappers and singers of today's society are speaking about topics that are relevant to them, but also helping to inspire future singers, artists and musicians that ANYTHING is possible if you continue to work hard, ignore people that only have negative things to say about you, or that don't want to support you in the lifestyle that you choose for yourself!
