Hey all,
I thought I would write a quick review of another new television gameshow hosted by Eastenders' Danny Dyer! The show is quite simple, in the fact that you just to answer questions correctly to build up mmoney in the pot...but there are some things that make the game a little more complicated!
At the beginning of the show, two players are faced with three initial 'this or that' questions, and if they get the answer right, they add that money to the pot once three balls dropped from zone one, four and seven are released from the top of the machine, and if it's wrong they take that amount from the pot...but even if they got the first question wrong, you can't go lower than £0 (which is refreshing to hear!). The only catch is that they have to answer the questions as quickly as possible, before the balls drop into the winning/losing zone!
In the second round, one of the contestants has to go into the 'isolation chamber' for the rest of the game and then they are both playing indirectly together, through a screen where the person in the chamber cannot hear or see anything going on outside. At the beginning of the round, Danny says that two green balls will be dropped, basically giving them 'free money' but that at the end of the round, two red balls will also have to be dropped to amke it fair! Below are the amounts of money they COULD bank.
There are another three questions in the round, and based on how confident the player is that their partner will get the question right, they have to decide which zone to drop the ball in (effectively a zone that has more of a chance to win a large of money if they are confident, or a zone which might only lose them £1/£100 if they get the answer wrong). The player also has the opportunity to 'double up' on question two or 'triple up' on question three if they want to risk potentially winning a lot more or sadly losing a lot more...
Round three is exactly the same, but there are now three green balls at the beginning of the round and three red balls at the end. Each question now has four answer options and the amount of money they can bank is a lot higher! (See below).
Again, the money is either added or removed to the pot, and after three questions, we see what 'The Wall's' final total is.
The final decision - Read below for the official wording from the Wikipedia page (which I don't usually trust, but oh well)
Wikipedia Says: 'After the third question in Round 3, the isolated player is sent a contract by the host and must either sign or destroy it. Signing the contract gives up the team bank in favor of a guaranteed payout, equal to the Free Fall winnings plus an additional £2,500 for every question answered correctly in Rounds 2 and 3. If the isolated player destroys the contract, the team receives their final bank total instead.
After the three red balls have dropped in Round 3 and the final bank is calculated (or after the last question if there is less than £3 banked), the isolated player returns to the stage to reveal his/her decision. Only at this point does he/she learn the number of correct answers given, the payout total, and the team's final bank. If the isolated player destroys the contract, the team receives their final bank total instead.
The maximum possible guaranteed payout is £52,500, obtained by scoring £37,500 in Free Fall and answering all six questions correctly in Rounds 2 and 3. The maximum possible bank total is £687,495, obtained by answering every question correctly, having every green ball drop into the highest-valued slot, and having the five mandatory red balls each drop into a £1 slot'.
'The Wall' began its first series on 12th October 2019 and ran for 9 episodes which ran until 16th November 2019 and its current reason began its second series on 3rd October, has currently has 8 episodes, and is still on air!
Opinions: I think it's definitely a great show to have on the air, and Danny makes it a little more dramatic than it probably should be by saying things like 'Wall, is it RIGHT or is it WRONG' in a dramatic cockney accent, but it's a simple concept for an intense show...especially whilst everyone has a lot of adreneline at the moment, it's something to get everyone off their seats! Maybe there is a Celebrity version on the horizon? Who knows? But it's a Yes from me...wait, wrong show, I like it!
Alright, until my next blog/gameshow/music review...bye!
