The Celebrity Circle 2021 - Episode 1 #StandUpToCancer

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hello everyone!

The Circle is back, but this third series is a celebrity version! We have previously seen Alex Hobern winning the first series by playing as his girlfriend 'Kate', and Paddy Smyth, who won the second series, with Tim Wilson voted as 'the viewers favourite player'. So, which celebrities are going into The Circle and who are they playing as?

Denise Van Outen was the first celebrity announced, and within seconds of her walking into the apartment, she said 'omg this is so me, I'm glad I've got a bath' - so I guess she's excited already! She explained that she's going to bring some razzle dazzle to the show, she can have fun, likes banter and also loves the idea of making new friends. She aded that she has got to know a lot of different celebrity faces, and if they're pretending to be somebody she does know, then she'll catch them out. On her profile, she added the cheeky line 'welcome to my circle' with a *wink*

BBC Radio presenters Rickie & Melvin were the next celebrities who entered The Circle. They stated that they've been friends for over 20 years, and almost 'bound together by blood'. Melvin stated that Ricky is confident, and Melvin asked whether they would be popular enough to win the show? They decided 'No' and are entering the show as WILL.I.AM; a DJ, producer, rapper, dancer and super talented individual. The boys added that he's a 'quirky character, super fresh and unique', and admitted that they were both competitive. Melvin stated that 'I've got a feeling we're going to win this' and they set their relationship status for Will as 'intergalactic' because that's something he would say...

The next celebrity to enter The Circle was YouTube content creator Saffron Barker who has over 8.5 million subscribers and wanted to go into the show as herself! She admitted that the difference with this show is that she usually sells herself through a video, and with only texts and emojis, messages can be taken out of context. She hates when she gets to know people, trusts them and then finds out they're not real comparing her love of Dwayne Johnson and how disappointing she would be if it was Mary Berry! On her profile she also decided to put her relationship status as 'single' so that she can flirt with the other players!

Up next was Nadia & Kaye, two of the panellists on ITV's Loose Women! They admitted that you couldn't find two people who were as different as these two, but maybe their differences will help them win the show! They decided that in order to win the show, you have to go above and beyond, and they stated that their celebrity was sassy, unbelieveable, soft and sweet and always a diva...They are entering as Gemma Collins! Nadia added that she doesn't think anyone else has a chance to win because they're the GC, but Nadia quickly added 'the more I talk, the more worried I'm getting!'.

Celebrity number 5 was Lady Leshurr, rapper, songwriter and producer. She admitted that men usually win everything in life, soe she wanted to go in the game as a man. She describes her celebrity of having a good sense of humour, popular on the outsie world and able to relate to people in a funny way, so she is entering as Big Narstie! She added that she thinks he's incredible saying 'Big Narstie Little Leshurr, we've got this!'. She said that she had to make sure she got in the zone of being a man, and not get emotional because she's 'gotta know what we're in here for'.

Pete & Sam from TOWIE & Made In Chelsea were the next pairing to go into the game! Sam quickly said 'I wanna catfish someone!' and it seems that they have a love/hate relationship even before entering The Circle! They described their celebrity as stunning, very intellectual and very popular, so they decided to enter as Countdown's number girl Rachel Riley! The boys added that she's a strong independant woman who's 'killing life' and Pete said that if they went in as themselves they would fail miserably. He added that he wasn't worried about playing as Rachel, but was more worried about spending 24 hours a day living with Sam! 'I feel like I'm going to come out this with a six day migraine'. For their profile picture, their options included Rachel in a swimming outfit underwear and also a bikini selfie, but they decided to go with a more simplistic and friendly selfie!

Celebrity number 7 was announced as Duncan James from Blue, who was entering the game as himself! He admits that he can be charming, polite and respectful and he's 'not just the pouty one from Blue'. He added that being an Aries is going to help him, as they are good leaders, ask lots of questions and are usually quite good detectives. He also put that he was 'recently single' on his profile so the other celebrities can play on the heartbreak, and he added that he was happy to flirt with both guys and girls.

The 8th and final celebrity to enter The Circle was RuPaul Drag Race's 'Queen of the battered sausage' Baga Chipz! She admitted that in the real world she is popular and famous, and that some of the other players might get jealous and probably block her, so she needed to go in as somebody else...and she chose Kim Woodburn! Baga admits that she knows the real Kim and says she's got a heart of Gold. Her strategy is to befriend the girls and flirt with the guys (if only she was 20 years younger!). Baga added that she's been on the phone with Kim, has read her biography and also knew about the last time she went to the toilet! Her aim is to have fun and play with people!

After everybody entered their apartments and started to get to know eachother, here were some of the initial thoughts from some of the players!

Saffron admitted that she didn't know who Denise and Duncan were, and they probably wouldn't know who she was either. Denise noticed that Saffron put 'blogger' on her bio and said 'that's why I don't know her!'. Lady Leshurr/Big Narstie wasn't sure if Duncan was real, as she doesn't usually think that men have that many emojis on their profile!

Rickie & Melvin/Will.I.Am don't seem to think that Gemma Collins is real...and they're correct, because the GC is Nadia & Kaye, and they also had their suspicions on some of the other players! Baga/Kim said she's going to ask Rachel a lot of questions about maths to see if she's good at working out answers on the spot, and Pete a.k.a 1/2 of Rachel Riley, stated that he follows Saffron on Instagram and knows she's just been on holiday with a 'geezer' so she must be a catfish!

During their introductions to eachother, Big Narstie started the conversation by saying he was hungry, and Saffron said that this was the first time she has lived away from home, so Denise sent a reassuring message saying that she was there for her, and it will be alright - which Rickie & Melvin were gutted about, as they almost got their message of support in for Saffron! Kim Woodburn a.k.a Baga pretended that Kim didn't know how to use emojis and asked how to 'bring up the pictures at the end of the messages' and helpful Will.I.Am thought that this was the best way to assist and make a new ally in the game! After several minutes, the Circle chat closed, and Rickie thought that they had messed up the game, with Melvin stating that 'less is more' and they also managed to get out of answering a question from Denise! Baga stated that Duncan and Kim were her biggest competition, and it was obvious that they knew eachother.

Each of the 8 celebrities had to rate the others, just based on their first impressions in order from 1st to 7th, with the top 2 celebrities becoming 'influencers' and able to take control of the game. Denise went to put on some lipstick to make her feel powerful and Duncan admitted that he needed to try and play tactically, so rated Denise as her favourite, hoping that she would have his back. We were shown some of the other ratings, which included:

Denise: Rachel #1

Rachel: Will.I.Am #1

Will.I.Am: Saffron #1

Gemma: Big Narstie #1 - Nadia: He fancies us, we know how to play him'

Big Narstie: Saffron #1 - Rickie & Melvin: Seems so innocent and she's young/genuine

Kim: Will.I.Am #1 - Baga: Only one who showed interest in me, don't think he's real, but need him on side!

Rachel invited Saffron to a private chat and started her chat with 'I'm going to be honest with you *laughing emoji*' to which Pete said 'why are you going to laugh?' - but they managed to bond over Strictly Come Dancing, they spoke about Rachel's daughter Maven and Saffron said she reminded her of her mother, with Rachel replying 'can't we be sisters instead?'. Saffron added that she felt like she just offended Rachel and hopefully they can try and get past that!

Big Narstie a.k.a Lady Leshurr invited Gemma Collins a.k.a Nadia & Kaye to a private group chat to see how the flirting game would work between them! Narstie asked 'am I your type' and Kaye said to Nadia that she's probably chatting up Edwina Curry. Pete & Sam began channeling their inner genius' by playing a game of Connect 4 which is for people aged 6 and above...

The next part of this episode saw the celebrites take part in a game called 'Hall of Shame', where there would be a phrase or quote on the board, and they would all have to publicly guess who they thought said each phrase.

Up first was 'I'm scared of fish, it's the way they look at you' which almost every guessed as Big Narstie, apart from Big Narstie who chose Saffron? 1/2 of Will.I.Am said that 'Big Narstie is a catfish!'. Duncan James was revealed as having sh*t himself live on television with Rachel saying it was 100% Duncan, Gemma saying it was Duncan, but also it's a very 'Gemma thing to say' - and again, Rickie & Melvin thought Gemma was also now a catfish because she guessed herself, although it wasn't her! The third and final quote was 'When I die I intend to be buried in a scissor shaped coffin...thoroughly worn out but with a smile on my face'. Big Narstie guessed Denise adding it was a 'bit random', Saffron guessed Duncan, saying she 'didn't know what they mean by that' and Baga said it was herself as she knows herself! It was revealed as Kim, and again Rickie & Melvin were debating whether it would actually be Kim, because she 'knows how to use Twitter, but not emojis', with Denise adding the comment 'dirty cow'!

The first ratings results were revealed, and below is the order that the celebrities were ranked from 8th to 1st:

8th - Denise

5th - Rachel/Duncan/Gemma

4th - Kim

3rd - Will.I.Am (Will)

2nd - Big Narstie (BN)

1st - Saffron!

Saffron said 'I don't know how I pulled that off, I genuinely thought I was last' and Duncan instantly started a private chat with Denise to discuss the ratings. They both realised that eachother were real as they had their nicknames such as 'Den' and 'Dunc the Hunk' which confirmed their friendship outside of The Circle! Duncan asked that 'whatever the outcome, let's have eachother's backs', with Denise adding 'at least we know we're both genuine'.

The final part of the show saw the host Emma Willis, walking to the Circle Control room, where she was able to see and talk to all of the celebrities (almost like Big Brother), and she revealed that tomorrow night, both influencers Big Narstie (Lady Leshurr) and Saffron, who is playing as herself, would be publicly putting 2 players *at risk*, with the first celebrity being blocked in tomorrow's show! The Celebrity Circle has been created as a show to support 'Stand Up To Cancer' and if you're able to donate, the link can be found below!

The Celebrity Circle continues for 5 more episodes, so stay tuned from 9pm tomorrow night to see what happens next!
