Hey everyone,
For today's review I will be discussing Spencer Elmer's new track called 'ick' which is probably about somebody that he used to have feelings for, and realised that now she might be something of the past. The word 'ick' suggests that there is something that somebody does that Spencer doesn't like, like a turn off in a relationship or generally in a person. He sings the lyrics 'boy you gave me the ick, forgot that you lived on TikTok' suggesting that the person saying this to him didn't realise that he is focused on making content online. They go on to sing that Spencer has a long 'for you' page which could include videos of Spencer or other relatable content stopping him from coming offlne.
Other lyrics include him saying 'trying to get big like Rick Ross' suggesting that he wants to make it big, as Rick ended up being turned into a viral meme many years ago. Spencer says 'she hates my vibe but what can I tell her' almost suggesting that there's nothing he can do to change himself and people just need to respect him for who he is. Spencer also says 'I'm more of a country boy, the noise at night is stressful' which tells us that he's maybe not used to the London night life and would prefer being back in a small town or village where he can actually breathe and think. Spencer also speaks about when he was at school trying to impress somebody, saying that 'I was thinking of you and me... pull out my USB spinning music like a DJ' which maybe was his first outlet of making music and that he knew it was something he wanted to take a lot more seriously along with his online content.
It's a very short song (just under two minutes) but let's see if Spencer releases any other music this year or even an EP of a few songs. He's got a great rapping voice and the track really showed off his rhythm as well as the start of him opening up about previous experiences.
Hope you enjoyed my review, until my next blog... Goodbye!
