Hey everyone,
For today's review I will be writing a short summary of a film that I watched a few years ago and hoped would have a sequel...and here it is! 'Smile' followed the story of a female doctor who worked out a pattern of how deaths were happening, after speaking briefly with her patient who sadly ended her life. In Smile 2, Naomi Scott plays a female music star character called 'Skye Riley' who is on a comeback music tour around the world, but before she begins, not only is she stressed out by the people around her, but she encounters a lot of strange activites along the way.
Throughout the film, it seems as if everyone she engages with or meets with in person, becomes part of her weird hallucinations - including her high school friend Lewis who she received a text from, but then he admits to her that he never sent a text to her telling her to come over...and he takes his own life in front of her. Other hallucinations include her friend Gemma and even her own mother. Throughout the film, she is seen attending events and saying strange comments, acting weird or reading autocue's which seem to have been altered, with one welcoming a guest who she was in the car alongside and had died by her side...which was shocked as to why the autocue would say such a bizarre thing.
She also speaks to a guy named Morris who tells her that he needs to remove her heart and stop her breathing for a short while in order to get rid of the nasty creature, and if she does a weird smile he has the authority to kill her. When in a very cold space of a Pizza restaurant, Morris goes off to get something but then doesn't reappear, so maybe he was manipulated to get Skye away from a public space for her own safety, or for the safety of everyone else in town.
I won't spoil the movie, but in the end it seems like things don't end well for Skye as when she was infected with 'this thing', you've usually only got 4 days to live, and when it entered her body, it forced her back on stage for the last time and you can see the confusion on her face. After a few minutes of realisation, you can see the figure coming towards her and entering her body, and the camera begins pointing at the audience and you can see and hear them screaming as she...I presume has 'the smile' on her face and ends her life live on the stage in a disturbing final scene.
It was a great sequel to the original movie, and I like how it's a completely different storyline, but follows the same things and investigation techniques!
