Hey all!
I hope you're having a good day wherever you are and whatever you're doing! I've discovered a new singer/songwriter called Sara Kays who's released a new music video for her song 'Remember That Night?', released on 4th December 2020. Without further delay, here's my video review!
This music video by Acetone Films was really well shot, and although the majority of the scenes were set at night time, it helped in telling the story. The opening shot sees Sara sitting in her car, outside a personal restaurant which could be the main venue that brought about the lyrics of the song, but it was a simple yet effective way to introduce the singer! Some of the other shots included seeing Sara wearing a variety of winter clothes, which included a jumper and woolley hat - with slight rays of sun as well! A lot of the shots seemed to be filmed outside in a forest or a field, which could be a quiet location for Sara to gather her thoughts, or reminiscing on the good times from the past
Some of the lyrics which instantly got my attention included several lines which spoke about how after 1, 2 and 3 months she had gradually been getting over the incident that happened on this particular night, singing the lyrics '3 months on, you were off my mind'...and it seemed like this person stayed off of her mind, until they got back in contact with her. She explained what was said to her by singing 'remember that night, when we went for a drive a 2:30 in the morning', almost like somebody trying to bring back the good memories, and prove their worth to Sara, although she might have a different idea as to what she wants to do. While she is singing some of these lyrics, there are a variety of interesting shots, including close ups of her facial features, including her cheeks and her mouth, but also some gradual zoom shots of her sitting in her car with her arm on the door, looking slightly confused, upset or even disappointed at times!
She goes on to explain that a day after somebody reaching out and 2 days after somebody reached out made her pray that on the 3rd time she's be okay, explaining 'how long I had to fight to be living my life', almost trying to say that she tried to shut out this individual so that she could focus on her own life, and now that they're back, it's almost like she's feeling lost or broken again. She says that she felt 'broken for the second time around' which might explain why she's hoping that she can get over her emotions, as maybe she already gave this individual a chance and they stopped communications with her the first time round. Towards the end of the music video, there are some really fast time lapse shots of Sara being driven in a car down a variety of roads, through day and night...with various scenes in the background, including the street lights, zoom in shots whilst sitting on a tree and also a variety of close up shots of her smiling with the sunset able to be seen in the background. It's a really interesting music video, another one of those that makes you think about what story is trying to be told, but I liked the singing, the environments, and the simplicity of the outfits chosen as it didn't seem there were many vibrant and colourful outfit changes!
