Hey all!
For this music video review, I believe Rita Ora and her collaborators have merged together bits from all 4 of the songs featured on her latest EP called 'Bang' and created a video showcasing all of them! The songs include 'Mood' featuring Khea, 'The One', 'Bang' and 'Big' with help from David Guetta and Gunna. The EP music video has had over 2 million views so far so here's my written review below!
At the beginning of the video I didn't know what to expect as I've not watched a lot of EP films before. It started with Rita dancing in a purple cage, almost as if she was floating, before she appeared on the screen with her black outfit, dancing around with her short hair, dark eye makeup and backup dancers. She sings the lyrics 'I've been there done that, and I know...what's new what's good what's up' followed by 'what's the mood because I'm changing it all up' which could simply mean that she is moving into a new 'era' of Rita Ora music, 'changing the mood' and potentially experimenting with a new style? There is also a quite distant shot of a car driving through a town, with trees on one side and apartments/buildings on the other, and Rita is seen wearing what I would call a mix between a religious outfit, a KPOP outfit and something that an Emperor would wear, alongside a group of dancers. She sings the words 'big tanks looking like transformers' which I am unable to work out the true meaning for, but I'm guessing hse is referring to something as being incredibly large and powerful. She goes on to say 'you gon' know about it when we come through, bad b*tches come in 2's', so maybe this is to do with competing against somebody or explaining how powerful she is in certain situations, and the need for 2 girls to work together to take somebody down relates to situations dealt with in the past.
She goes on to use the lyrics 'midnight, come get right on this side' which also identify that Rita wants to cause mayhem from midnight...or that's when the true fighting begins. A dance breakout of her other dressed up dancers begins and you can see a variety of different shots of them in black and red kilt/dresses with long boots to accompany their outfit, with some of them sitting on a long silver pole that is going along the screen. Imanbek is wearing a black top, trousers and matching glasses and performs a short rap verse with final lyrics including 'see it in the lanes, everything brand new' which could either be referring to the freshness of the outfits, or fresh fighting spirit from Rita and her girls! She goes on to say 'blame it on the city how I'm ballin' which she repeats multiple times, and she's from England, so potentially she is talking about her hometown.
Towards the end of the song, you can see a lady in white riding a black horse through a mist, with an amazing view of the environment around her, but I don't think this is Rita's character. It then cuts to a very snowy seen which shows Rita Ora wearing a black outfit including a black hat inside an ice castle, so the black and white colours blend well together. She sings the words 'bang bang, my heart skips a beat...' which could be the nerves of any shots fired or 'bang bang' could relate to any fighting that might be occuring off the screen. Her final lyrics in the song are 'baby baby, baby I got it..oh oh, I think I'm in trouble' - which I don't think relate to her breaking the coronavirus rules, but she may have other issues that she is trying to deal with at this current point. Either way, it was a spooky and quite interesting way to finish the EP film, but it was really well put together, I loved all of Rita's outfits, and it was great to see some fresh music from her as it's been a while since I've seen anything from her, other than being on The Masked Singer UK for the last two seasons as well!
