Hello everyone!
After rising to fame with her single 'Friday' many years ago, Rebecca Black seemes to be back with some new music, her latest single called 'Girlfriend' released back on January 29th 2021! Withut further delay, here's my written review!
This new music video had a very simple concept, and a small selection of environment changes. The beginning of the video saw Rebecca sitting in a glittery outfit with shiny knee length boots, in a room of balloons explaining that she was 'getting back with my girlfriend' adding that she needs a 'night in the deep end'. Those opening lyrics explain that Rebecca Black could be attracted to both guys and girls, or she doesn't want to put a label on the type of friendship she has with this female friend of her's. She continues to describe the experience, saying 'this time is going to be different' which could explain that they have tried to be in a relationship before and something didn't work out, but they have managed to persuade eachother to try again! One of the next outfits changes sees Rebecca in a red dress, dancing and performing on the stage with the word 'Girlfriend' seen in the background on the back wall.
I think this music video was really well shot and edited and the variety of backgrounds and scenes show the different styles of look she has tried to go for, potentially showcasing the different looks she has in her everyday life; the more glam look, the chilled and casual look or the more seductive Rebecca who loves the glitter. The various environments in the park, on the stage and in the room full of balloons indicate that some form of party of celebration could be happening to record and remember this moment forever. Some of the other lyrics she sings include 'I wanna see her, I got a fever, I guess I really want her back, I feel it in her' which are the lyrics towards the end of the song, showing that she might feel some sort of emotional and romantic connection to this individual so let's see if anything goes further. There are also shots of Rebecca and the mysterious girl dancing on the grass with a lovely sunset in the background, before we see Rebecca in the balloon room with her own spotlight, and then gradually the spotlight goes away and she's lying on the ground as her lyrics come to a close!
