Hey everyone,
I thought I'd write a short review of a new television gameshow that started yesterday, hosted by comedian Tom Allen! I don't know where I discovered him, but he has appeared on lots of shows and panels including 'Bake Off: The Professionals' and 'Ready or Not', and the About Me page on his website states: 'Tom Allen is a comedian, writer and actor. He started as a stand up at the age of 22 and went on to win both So You Think You’re Funny in Edinburgh and the BBC New Comedy Awards in the same year. Since then he has honed his unique style of sharp, acerbic wit and camp, riotous storytelling by performing to audiences all over the UK and around the world.'
Tom has now delved into the world of gameshows, and in this quite crazy but interesting 1 hour show, 4 contestants compete against eachother in a variety of funny games in order to try and win a jackpot of £25,000. I can't remember the minigame names, but some of the rounds include almost every answer being the same with a few trick questions...a 'chain' round (similar to the 'I went to the shop and bought'... game) where contestants have to remember the previous answer(s) as well as the answer that they give and even a round where they have to replace answers with silly words autogenerated by a computer screen (so for example, the 3 words chosen might be Eelie, Wheelie and Deelie, and if the answer to the question was 'Doctor Who', the contestants would have to answer with 'Deelie Wheelie'!).
It's on every Friday night for a total of 5 episodes, and then we will see if that's the end of a new show's journey, or whether it may become part of the television schedule! I think Tom Allen is a very funny comedian (bit embarrasing if he wasn't funny); and I'm sure he will go on to other amazing projects and shows, but this is definitely a 'career filler' whilst the world is in a pandemic and people are unable to go anywhere at the moment! Maybe I can even get some comedic tips so that if *potentially* in the future, I become a television show host or gameshow host, I can gather some tips and tricks from the current masters of the games today! I hope you enjoyed this blog post, and if you want to see Tom on your screen, check out Channel 4 on Friday night!
