Poppy 'Flux' - Album Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hot off the huge success of previous heavy rock album “I Disagree”, Poppy takes us on a new musical journey with the release of her new album “Flux”. The album, while still maintaining some heavy rock elements, also brings us a nostalgic 90s grunge rock vibe which can only be described as epic.

From the moment the first track begins, which is the title track “Flux”, you can tell that you’re going to be in for a real treat with this album. While maintaining the grunge rock style that Poppy has adopted, she still reminds the listener that she can go into heavy metal mode at any given time.

Songs such as “So Mean”, “On the Level” and “Hysteria” bring us a sense of fun and enjoyment as you can clearly tell that Poppy really had a blast making this album. The spoken words “How did I get here?” in the song “So Mean” are said in the classic Poppy voice from her YouTube days which is then followed by a scream reminding us that she is not the same person that she was back then.

“Lessen the Damage” and “Her” give us that heavy edgy rock vibe from Poppy that so many fans have come to know and love. “Lessen the Damage” also reminds audiences of a cover of 90s alternative rock band Jack off Jill’s hit song “Fear Of Dying” that Poppy released on May 26th of this year.

The album ends with the song “Never Find My Place” which I found to be one of my personal favourites. The song starts off quiet and continues to build throughout it, closing a truly adventurous and amazing album that fans of Poppy are sure to love.

If you haven’t listened to this album yet, I highly recommend that you do, especially for those who are fans of Poppy or love that old school nostalgic grunge rock style.

“Flux” is available now on iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music.
