Phillip Schofield's Sunday Quiz Show '5 Gold Rings'. What's it all about?

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all!

So, after four episodes, I FINALLY got round to watching Phillip's new show called '5 Gold Rings'. I must say, I don't think a phone app has developed so quickly to allow people to play along, especially because she show hasn't been live for that long. Anyways, the show is on at 6pm every Sunday, and you are able to play along with your phone!

Anyways, the simple explanation about the show is that there are two teams of two who each have five gold rings, and the aim of the game is to simply place their ring with at least one pixel in the correct place. For example, one of the questions compared Phillip (at 5'11) to a bird seen on the top of a building, which had been shrunk down to his size. It was releaved that it's total was just above 18' and the contestants had to place their ring in approximately the right place. In that particular episode, one of the contestants decided to lie on the Phillip's virtual character and try to work out exactly 18'!

In total there are five rounds where each pair are able to get the questions correct, but in every round the rings also get smaller. Similarly to other shows, there are lifelines available which make it easier to find the correct answer. The first is 'Ask the team of 5' which allows them to see where each of their five family/friends have put their sings, or 'Flip the floor' which shows you an alternative question to see if it's any easier for you to complete!

Round one is worth £1,000, going up to £2,500, £5,000, £7,500 and £10,000 in round 5, and if one pair decide to take on a game and get it wrong, the other team are able to steal that amount of money for that round, if they get it right!

At the end of the show, the team that has banked the most money (by answering the most questions correctly), were 'in control', where they decided if they wanted to play the final game. If they chose to play and put their final ring in the correct place, they would win the money they earnt. If they played and got it wrong, the other team would win however much money they earnt! (And the same for if they passed to the other team; they win, they win their pot, they lose, the team in control win their pot). For this episode, the boys were in control but asked the girls to play...They had to memorise where the purple butterfly ended up sitting before it disappeared from the screen, and they got it right, winning them £12,500!

At the end of the fourth episode (which is the one I joined in on), I was able to see my place on the leaderboard overall! For that current week I was in the top 81,000, but overall so far I was 135,955th. Not too bad for a first attempt, but obviously from here I can only go up!

So, do you think what it takes to place five rings in the correct place for upto £50,000??? I'd love to give it a try!
