Hey all,
For this blog post I am going to very briefly speak about a documentary I watched towards the end of 2020! Back in November, Ovie Soko was involved in a BBC Three documentary called 'Life After Reality TV' where he juggled the decisions of whether to continue playing professional basketball, become a social media influencer with the brand deals and potentially having an ever more public presence than he already does, or try and enjoy both lifestyles simultaneously. The description of the documentary was simply stated 'Professional basketball player and Love Island star Ovie Soko decides which direction to take his life as he explores the good and the bad of the reality TV industry'.

I'm not in the 'industry' but just based on what I've heard and seen, there are most certainly quite obvious pro's and con's:
Pro's - You're able to collaborate with lots of brands, able to earn money from sponsorships, deals and simply posting images on social media, a bigger platform to meet other influencers and more recognition for the work that you do...
Con's - In the public eye 24/7 with all eyes on you, have to be careful about the fake news stories/gossip/online trolls/fake accounts, your private life including family, friends and location become exposed to all, if it all goes wrong, you'll get publicly shamed and slammed by people all around the world...
Ovie met up with and spoke to a variety of influences including Olivia Bowen who is one of the lucky influencers from Love Island who can make upto £50,000 per month, in a 'good month' depending on the brand deals and collaborations she can get. He also visited some of the Love Island stars who didn't 'blow up' and risked losing their jobs over trying to become influencers. It's definitely an insightful and interesting documentary which shows the good, bad and the ugly moments of being in the spotlight, with advice and feedback from Ovie's father, and other social media stars who have gone on to do amazing things, but some have regretted being on television or doing naughty things infront of the camera, as it has now changed people's perceptions on them...and they are now having to undo all of their negative actions to prove to people that they are genuine and professional enough for work opportunities.
