Miley Cyrus 'Angels Like You' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey everyone,

After the release of Miley Cyrus' album called 'Plastic Hearts', she has since released at least one music from for one of the songs! The latest single is called 'Angels Like You' and my review is below!

For the beginning of Miley Cyrus' new music video, the opening shots made it clear that Miley was getting herself ready to perform on stage, with her shoulder length blonde hair and green crop top being showcased. There were a variety of shots of different parts of the band, including the pianist, guitar player and even of miley herself. The next shot showed Miley lying down on the floor with a glittery back top and the number '25' written on it, which could either be a sign that the song is about a situation that happened when he was 25? Or it's just her favourite number.

Her eye makeup is also quite bright and glittery, and her long black and pink sparkly nails make Miley seem even more rocky and glamorous than she already is! She's known for her husky and raspy sounding vocals, and they can definitely be heard throughout this song. Some of the first lyrics I listened out for included 'flowers and hand waiting for me, every word in poetry' which either suggests that she's excited to finally be able to to start seeing her fans again, as there will be lots of gifts waiting for her, or she's hoping that these events from the past happen again, as she know that when you're in love, you are likely to receive lots of gifts, including flowers. Miley goes on to sing the lyrics 'it's not your fault I can't be what you need'...adding 'I'm everything they said I would be'. I think these particular lyrics suggest that any newspapers, stories, tabloids or social media pages that have shared stories about Miley, whether it was her outbreak many years ago when she jumped onto a wrecking ball, people reminiscing about her younger self in Hannah Montana, or one of her most recent roles as 'Ashley O', the facts are there, and the statements are true.

It's quite interesting to see that Miley is performing at a concert, as if it was just an ordinary event, but all of the members of the audience are wearing face coverings, and you can clearly see that there are smaller crowds than usual. One of the lyrics in the chorus includes 'angels like you, can't fly down here with me', which could either mean that she's singing about somebody who's sadly passed away, or that this mysterious individual is at a different place in their life to Miley, and they're unable to meet anytime soon. Towards the end of the music video, there is a really interesting close up shot of Miley singing, whilst she's lying on the floor, and she keeps constant eye contact with the camera until the end of the music video, and the natural sunlight helps gives a light glow to Miley's face.

To finish the music video, Miley has added a hand written note to let people know that the audience in her music video were fully vaccinated and the health care workers have been fearlessly and tirelessly fighting COVID-19. She explains at the end 'Each of us can help stop the pandemic by being vaccinated. Together we can make the experience of live music a reality again...Forever Yours, Miley'. I think that was a nice personal touch to add that note at the end of the video, but I'm glad she explained that, otherwise I'm sure there would have been a lot of people saying 'why is she hosting a concert' etc etc!
