Maggie Lindemann 'Knife Under My Pillow' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey everyone!

In this blog post I am going to write about a new music video that has recently come out. The artist is called Maggie Lindemann and the name of the song is 'Knife Under My Pillow' - which could describe having a difficult night's sleep due to bad mental health, or the more literal meaning...and that there is actually a knife under her pillow!

The music video came out on 6th January 2021, so below will be my written analysis.

In the introduction of the video there is a slight pause before the music and vocals kick in. Maggie speaks to Google and asks for the lights to be turned on, which could be a nice touch to the music video...as during the multiple lockdowns, the only things we are able to speak to is electronic devices, or real life friends and family, also through devices. The background set is a mixture of pink, purple and blue with an almost 'gothic' feel - completely different to some of her other music videos including 'Pretty Girl', the song that gave her a platform and 'Personal' alongside The Vamps which was more of a romantic single.

She's seen wearing her swixxaudio shirt, which is the name of her music/record company as she might intend on signing new alternative artists and creators to it? - and she has been posting some blogs and other interesting content to the website which could be a new era of the Maggie Lindemann brand! She's seen playing a guitar so her character in the music video could be that of a rocker girl, wearing bright pink lipstick for one of her looks and multiple different creative hairstyles. Some of the lyrics that she sings include 'holding on for deal life, why does this happen to me all the time' - which could relate to holding onto love, or holding onto bad memories from the past, instead of being able to forget about them and move on. She further goes on to say that 'somebody is in her mind' which coul be her alter ago, previous lover or somebody from her past!

The overall look of the music video looks as if it has been shot at somebody's house as there is a scene in the bedroom, kitchen and living room among other things, and it looks very gothic and also very homely. There are also a lot of bright colours, lights and flashes including the red and orange background in one of the rooms, the variety of weird and wonderful camera shots and the dramatisation with the makeup, the outfits and the decorations around the house!

I love this music video, and I am very excited for Maggie to release some new music soon, especially with creative music video productions like this one! It's actually amazing to see how she's grown from a standard female singer/songwriter to showcasing her own looks, her own talent, and for only 22 years old she has had some amazing achievements so far, including having an original song of her's remixed, collaborating with The Vamps, and working on her first solo EP - which could bring some amazing new projects her way...also, she's a really lovely person in real life as I have been lucky enough to meet her several times, so that's always a plus!
