Hey everyone,
For today's blog post I thought I would write about a new documentary that has been released by Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Having been in one of the most successful female bands for over 10 years, she often stayed quite about things she was dealing with behind the scenes, such as racism, colour identity and sterotyping within the creative industry.
Throughout this documentary, her guests include fiancee Andre Gray, a professional footballer, her parents, other black creatives including X Factor's winner from 2008, Alexandra Burke and singer songwriters Nao, Keisha Buchanan from the Sugababes and also RAYE and she also interiewed member of parliament representative Dawn Butler who is known for speaking about about these issues.
In the documentary, Leigh-Anne explains about the difficulties of being labelled as the 'black girl' in a predominantly white industry, questioning why almost all of her staff and management team are white, and why there is a lack of diversity. She also explains that although she has a lovely house, partner and is able to live a happy life, the fact that racism still exists makes none of those things important.
Racism is a very difficult topic to speak about because everyone is entitled to their own opinions and thoughts, but the Black Lives Matter campaign has definiftely sparked a conversation within every generation of individuals; making people think about how a little comment or sly remark could affect somebody in a massive way, and their 'joke' could end up with horrific consequences.
