Jessie J 'I Want Love' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey everyone,

For today's music video review, I am watching Jessie J's new video for her latest single 'I Want Love' after not releasing any new music for quite a long time. She is primarily known for some of her popular tracks including 'Price Tag' with B.o.B and the emotional ballad 'Who You Are', as well as collaborating with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj on a single called 'Bang Bang' and being a judge on the The Voice UK for several years! This seems to be a comeback track for Jessie, so without any further delay, here is my review!

In the music video, she is seen to be pulling up to a club in a yellow taxi, and explains in the lyrics that she wants love. Her outfit is a pink suit with elegant glasses, a large set of earrings, coloured nails and a short black bob haircut which she hasn't showcased for a while, although she is seen to always be changing her look! She explains in the song that 'I always close the door because I thought you were afraid' which could hint at the fact that she is the one who ends relationships as she's not sure whether the other person is going to be able to put up with her, whether personally, or due to the fact that she's in the public eye. In the video she is seen dancing around some of the guys, catching eyes with one of them who seems to show her an app which makes it easier to buy drinks I believe (or he's just trying to get her attention so he can get her number)...

She goes on to say 'breaking all this years new resolutions' which could include trying not to get drunk or fall in love again, but then after the year everyone has had, I think people don't want to be on their own for any longer. There are a lot of close of shots of Jessie dancing to the camera in the female toilet, and holding her arms upto the lens, which showcases the emotion that she is trying to convey through the lyrics. The colour of these shots make it seem like it is night time, or that they have been tinted a light green colour to show the difference in mood from scene to scene. She continues talking to a handful of the other guys at the pub, doing 'cheers' with drinks and seeing to try and get as much attention for herself as possible by dancing on the bar, lying down on the bar and singing at the top of her voice. The final shot sees her putting her jacket back on and leaving the club...alone, or has somebody left before her, and she's finally found love? Who knows? Mamma knows best...if you know what I mean!
