For today's music video review I thought I would listen to and review Bruno Mars' new track with Anderson Paak! Both Bruno and Anderson have teamed up and are actively performing as a two piece band called 'Silk Sonic'. Their first music video release as a duo is called 'Leave the Door Open' and my video review is down below!
In the opening of the music video, there was a short clip focusing on the record players, showing the words 'Silk Sonic' which was clearly a way of introducing this new band that has been created in 2021! You can also see a man and a woman sitting in the recording studio, which could probably represent what happened when the band went into to rehearse first time round. There are a lot of cool video shots to introduce both of the artists and also some nice close up shots of the drum kit! One of the opening lines includes the lyrics 'I look too good to be alone, my house clean, my pool warm' which are sung by Anderson who's wearing a flowery green shirt, and probably explain that he's ready for people to come over, and seems to be quite disappointed that he's not been able to find a lover anytime yet, especially when he's done all the housework and is ready for love! Bruno's lyrics include 'tell me that you're coming through' which might suggest whether a new lover will be walking into his new house, or if he has to keep on searching. He's also rocking his new moustache, and seems to have his own spotlight throughout the entire video!
There are various shots of drummer Anderson looking directly into the camera, which is quite comedic, but could also be his way to sell himself as being a single man, and if somebody is interested, they can get in contact! He sings 'there's so much love we could be making...kissing, cuddling, rose petals in the bathtub...it's bubbling' almost hinting that he doesn't want to wait any longer, and he's not sure how he can get anybody's interest even more than that! Other shots at this point in the video include various close up shots of some of the boys, with a quick transition to a group of girls who are also in the recording studio listening to the new song, wearing their glamorous outfits and jewellery. Towards the middle of the song there is a short vocal instrumental with lots of 'la la la's and disco lights moving around the room. Some more of Bruno's lyrics include 'hoping you feel the way I feel' to further explain the motion of wanting to be in love, and as the cheeky chappy he is, there are also some funny pan shots where you can see his head poking in and out of the camera, with the rest of the band also performing for the camera as well! I think it was a great song with meaningful lyrics, and especially after a year of not meeting anyone, it would be nice to find love and actually be able to plan a future with somebody! Let's see!
