Hello everyone!
Ant & Dec are back with their 17th series of 'Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway' which will be airing for the next 7 weeks on ITV at 7pm! To start the 90 minute show, Gary Barlow and Beverley Knight performed their new song 'Enough is Enough' and Olly Alexander was introduced as the first person to do the voiceover for the first episode! Ant & Dec admitted that it was slightly different hosting the show without an audience...but they had 300 people in a virtual audience instead, and were going to ensure that the show was just as interactive as before! Olly Alexander said that he was very exciting to be out of the house, and has also got a new outfit for every part of the show!
The first part of the show saw Ant & Dec explain a new part of the show which was to find the end of the 'takeaway rainbow'. They lit up the rainbow which began in the studio and ended up at a secret location somewhere in the UK, where Fleur East would be there to give somebody the biggest surprise of their life! She said 'Hi boys, it's so good to be back! I'm ready to put a massive smile on someone's face!'.
Ant & Dec decided to say hello to some of the people in their virtual audience, and exposed a lady called Camelia Podmore for building a fake vegetable garden during the lockdown, by buying vegetables from the shop and pranking all of her friends on social media!
Ant & Dec decided to surprise Kath Crawley who had been a teacher at a school called St. Thomas' School where she had taught over 1,300 pupils. She thought that her and her daughter Becky were waiting for an interview on ITV news, but Ant & Dec wanted to treat her with something special before the retires, as this was her final year as a teacher! As she walked out from behind the stage, you could hear her mutter a naughty world, as she didn't realise she was on national television, and asked 'Is this on national television...that I'm retiring', before admitting that being a parent was the best job in the world, but heing a teacher is like being a parent, to a lot more children! Ant & Dec revealed to Kath that they had been nice to her throughout the whole of 2020 and showed her a variety of clips which would make it easy for her to realise what they had done! 2nd September 2020 was her last day as a teacher at the school, and one of her ex students delivered a bunch of flowers with a note that said 'Thank you Miss'. Lee, another ex student who now works at ASDA said to Kath that her shopping had been paid for, and as she was leaving, said 'Thank you miss'. Some of the other ex students, including Lee and Scott treated her with a private limo experience, and the renovation of one of the classrooms, with a final note on their whiteboard saying 'Thank you Miss!'.
On 2nd December, a Christmas party was arranged and decorated by past students, teachers and other volunteers who wanted to make the occassion for Kath to remember! Comedian Jason Manford was dressed up as Santa Claus and performed a Christmas duet of 'Merry Christmas Everyone' with Mrs Crawley herself! It was over to some of her current students to suggest items that Ant & Dec could treat her with, which included a world's best teacher mug, a unicorn, a candle that smells of elephants, a massive bottle of gin and chocolate buttons...and Ant said that the mug and the win was definitely something that they could pull off!
Gary Barlow was introduced as being the performer for the end of the 'show show' with an incredible orchestra, but Ant misheard and thought that there should have been an 'edible' orchestra...Ant & Dec announced that a total of 240 people would win a lucky prize to go on holiday wherever they liked and whenever they liked with 'The Takeaway Getaway'. This was sponsored by TUI, with over 70 hand picked resorts included those in Italy, Mexico and Greece! Some of the winners of this package included Vanessa Pritchard who has been a nurse for over 32 years, Jason Munroe, a 12 year old boy who keeps his elderly neighbour company when he finishes school and Pamela in Walsall who's spent 40+ years as a foster parent for over 300 children, and has adopted 6 for herself! Other winners included Corey Williams who has a family chip shop and raised money for charity, George Bailey, an 80 year old man from Kent who is Britain's oldest paperboy, delivering papers from 6am, Amiya Dane who learnt how to call 999, saving her mum's life when she collapsed at home and finally Darcy, who became a TikTok sensation when he noticed a dog in trapped ice, jumped in and rescued it for the world to see!
The next part of the show was introduced by Stephen Mulhern, presenter of many shows, including 'Rolling in it', 'Catchphrase' and 'In for a Penny' among other things! He entered the studio in all gold...with the motto of 'go for gold' in a series of Ant vs Dec...sporting contests edition! The first game was called 'Stephen Mulhern's Footy Putty' where there would be 3 holes that the boys would have to play. It was a mix of mini golf and football, as they had to kick a ball around a course and get it in the hole. After the first round, Ant was 1-0 up, as he took 2 attempts to get the ball in, whereas it took Dec 4 shots! For the second hole, Stephen explained that the boys needed to 'get your balls in my mouth and through to the other side', adding that they would have used Ant's head...but they 'didn't have enough plastic'. After 2 holes, Ant only used 4 shots, whereas Dec had used 5! In the third and final hole it was all to play for, but with Ant only using 1 shot and Dec using 5, Ant was the first winner in the Ant vs Dec competitions! It was then over to Andi Peters to explain how people could enter the biggest ever competition on ITV, allowing the public to win £200,000! He was in a double socially distant bubble, and was soon rolled off set...
The next part of the show is probably one of my favourite parts of the show! It's called 'I'm a Celebrity get out of mi ear' (a spoof of 'I'm a Celebrity get me out of here) which Ant & Dec present from Australia...with its most recent series being filmed in a Welsh castle. On this episode, Harry & Jamie Redknapp both had ear pieces in, and had to repeat whatever the boys were telling them through their ear pieces. To set the scene, they had to pretend they were setting up a new restaurant, and they were hiring potential staff (Thomas, Emma and Charmaine). With Thomas, he was a short guy, so Ant & Dec managed to play with that aspect, and as he revealed that his current job was a transport worker, Ant & Dec managed to tease Harry into asking whether there's a transfer fee from one job to another...With Emma, she had previous work as a waitress and Harry was told to begin yawning and eventually fall asleep, as well as listen to a voicenote from his partner Sandra who had apparently got her head stuck in the bin! The third a final potential worker was Charmaine which was probably the funniest out of the three! Initially she said 'Can I leave my bag here?' before going on a tour, and Ant whispered to Harry 'Yeah I'll rummage through that in a bit' - but he wasn't confident enough to say that and refused to repeat that line! They walked into a new room which they had no idea what was lurking behind the door, and were told to play a game of 'imaginery football'. Although they were all a little confused what was happening, they had no idea they were being pranked...until Ant & Dec appeared from round the corner to surprise them all!
Ant & Dec teased us about the introduction of a 'Double Trouble' film production which would be shown on 27th February 2021, and it was also over to Fleur East to reveal who's house was at the end of the takeaway rainbow! It could be seen at the Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool and Fleur said 'Let's light up the ouse and give the winner the good news' before appearing infront of Adam's door and knocking until he answered! She revealed 'You're at the end of our takeaway rainbow' and asked who he would go on the free holiday with and he said that he had got engaged that day! Fleur's robot friend handed them the envelope and there were rounds of applause and cheers from the virtual audience, as well as Fleur and both Ant & Dec!
The last game on the show was 'Win The Ads' which was a little different to the show before coronavirus, but with the virtual audience there was a contestant who was chosen at random, and they were able to win prizes that were shown during the show; 'The Bay'. The prizes included a Citroen C1 car, £2,000 to spend on a holiday with TUI, a family sofa set from Sofology, a 1 year Britbox subscription, kitchen appliances, Sky Q free for a year, a fully catered sausage party (when it's free to do so!) and a lot of cleaning products among other things! Karen, the chosen player had 75 seconds to answer as many questions as she could, and the boys stated that due to the slight time delay, they were giving slightly longer than in previous series'! Karen manasged to get 7 questions correct and won 7 prizes, but she decided to gamble all her winnings so far on one final question. It was 'On Thursday night, NASA landed a rover on Mars...but was it called 'Perseverance' or 'Endurance'...and the correct answer was Perseverance, so Karen won all 16 of the available prizes; including the car and the holiday!
The final part of the show was for Olly Alexander (lead singer of 'Years & Years') to announce that Gary Barlow was going to be performing his latest single 'Incredible' from his newest album 'Music Played By Humans'...and he would be joined with an orchestra with a difference! The performance was super entertaining to watch and Gary even changed some of the lyrics to fit with the theme of the 'edible' orchestra, changing one of his lyrics to 'It's a vegetable, what you're doing to me' - as he was joined by the REAL London vegetable orchestra!
That was the end of the first Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway show, but tune in at 7pm every Saturday for the next 6 weeks to see more prizes, more virtual audiences, and more of Ant vs Dec!
