Hello! Welcome to my first blog post of 2020! Yes, I can't even believe it myself that we have made it into a new decade. This year is most definitely going to bring a lot of new challenges and barriers, but as a society we have to break through them to achieve our goals and aspirations!
To begin the year right, I thought I would reflect on a Christmas show which aired on 31st December 2019 just before the beginning of the year started. Alan Carr hosted a celebrity special show which saw him and his co host Angellica Bell, looking back on the funniest, craziest and most entertaining stories of the year!
He was joined by three pairs of celebrities; Queen of the Jungle Jacqueline Jossa, This Morning's Kate Garraway, Ru Paul Drag Race's Michelle Visage and Little Mix's Jade Thirlwall, and finally the Pritchard brothers Curtis (most recently on Love Island 2019) and his younger brother AJ (who performed with Saffron Barker on Strictly Come Dancing earlier on in the year)...
The first game was called 'Making The Headlines' and it saw each of the teams trying to guess the correct title of a headline that happened earlier on in the year...
Jacqueline and Kate were up first, with the nine options as follows. They had to select a word or phrase in each column.
The correct answer was 'Gemma collins falls on ice' as she recently appeared on Dancing on Ice and become a trend on social media after she took a harsh tumble on the ice. There were also allegations that Jason Gardiner (Dancing on Ice judge) had sold stories on Gemma Collins in the news which made her feel upset the week she only got 13/40 points from the judges...
Michelle and Jade were up next, and their news story was 'Stormzy plays The Pyramid' stage at Glasonbury 2019. He is the first ever grime artist to do this...
The final pairing Curtis and AJ's headline was 'England Rugby Team blows World Cup' as although they beat The Netherlands, they didn't make it any further than the Quarter Finals!
After the first round, only Jacqueline and Kate had scored, with a lead of 10pts compared to 0pts for both of the other couples...
We saw a variety of funny images of 'Cecil the Sheep' who likes to kick men in their private parts, and a Pakistani news reporter who accidentally live streamed on his phone (but with a cat filter on his face)!!
That lead to a little mini-game to see who was 'under the filter...'
Michelle and Jade correctly guessed Donald Trump with Conan the dog who was rewarded with a special accommodation for bravery for helping fight terrorism in Syria!
'Guess The Animals' was the next game that was played, and the pairs had to guess why each of the animals that appeared on the screen were indeed...famous!
The answers were:
‘Little Magical Furry Unicorn’ - (who had a tail growing from his nose)
'Grumpy Cat' died… (died in May 2019 but left owner with $7 million)
'Cinda Block' the Cat - (overweight cat with a fitness channel)
'Guess The Losers' was another little mini game where each of the pairs had to guess who was the loser in each image...
Venus Williams, as she was beaten in the first round of Wimbledon 2019 to 15 year old U.S.A representative Cori Gauff... (Curtis got correct)
Theresa May, as she resigned from being the British Prime Minister back in June of 2019... (Jade got correct)
Simon Cowell, as he lost an astounding 20 pounds throughout the year... (Curtis got correct)
...and then they had to guess who Sophie Turner, Katy Perry and Chris Pratt got married/engaged to throughout the year.
Jade guessed 'Joe Jonas' for Sophie Turner...and was correct!
Jade also guessed 'Orlando Bloom' for Katy Perry which was also the right answer!
Finally, Michelle said 'Katherine Schwarznegger' for Chris Pratt, and they both got maximum points in that round!
Jacqueline and Kate were still leading with 20pts, Curtis and AJ on 13pts and last were Michelle and Jade with 11pts.
'Making The Headlines' was played for a second time with only Michelle and Jade getting points for their headline.
Curtis and AJ's headline was 'Jason Statham beats the bottle cup challenge', a trend that went viral in 2019.
Jacqueline and Kate's headline was 'Craig David serenades Anton Danyluk', something that happened in 2019's series of Love Island, when Anton pretty much became a 'fan boy' when Craig entered the villa for a DJ night...
...and Michelle and Jade's headline was 'Coleen Rooney reveals selling stories, as somebody on her Instagram happened to be selling stories about her. It was revealed to be Rebeckah Vardy...who snapped back and said that she didn't need the money!
After the second round of 'Making The Headlines, Jacqueline and Kate were still in the lead with 30pts, Michelle and Jade went into second place with 21pts, with Curtis and AJ in third place with only 13pts...
'Buzz Words' was the final game that all three pairings played, where they had to describe a sentence on the screen behind their pair, without saying the words on the screen.
Although Curtis struggled to explain most of the phrases, he helped his younger brother guess the 'Face Time' by saying it can make you older or younger, but was unable to describe topics including Ben Stokes, the cricketer or who Madonna was...They scored 10 points in that final round! Final score of 23.
Jacqueline and Kate were up next, and unfortunately Kate was unable to describe any of the phrases related to John Legend being the sexiest man alive, Uber helicopters, Facebook banning the aubergine emoji among other easily enough for Jacqueline to understand. But she was able to work out a phrase to do with Dwayne Johnson a.k.a 'The Rock' so they got 10 points in that round also! Final score of 40.
Michelle and Jade were the last pairing upto the game, and they were able to identity two phrases, which was all they needed to get through to the final! Luckily it was baby Archie from the Royal Family, and Kylie Jenner's massive lips which secured them a place in the final! They ended the final round with 41 points!
'The Final Round' - Against the clock, both Jade and Michelle had to answer a variety of questions in order to win the £25,000 grand prize for their chosen charity, 'Mermaids UK'. With topics including Thomas Cook, James Bond, Disney, Eurovision and Formula One, they had a lot of work to do in order to win the show! They managed to secure £10,000 for their chosen charity after answering 6 questions correct. 5 worth £1,000 each, and the 6th worse £5,000!
...and to end the show, they replayed the funny clip of Ross Kemp shouting 'Outstanding!' as they walked away..not empty handed!
That's it for this blog post, but if you did enjoy reading, don't forget to check out my other posts, and if you missed the show, it should be available for catch up on the itv player / itv hub! Until next time!!!!!
