Zara Larsson 'WOW' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all!

In today's music video, I will reviewing Zara Larsson's new song 'WOW' which was released on 22nd October 2020! Zara rose to fame on the Swedish equivalent of The X Factor UK and has since released a range of amazing songs, including 'Symphony' which she released with Clean Bandit, 'Never Forget You' with MNEK and even her remix of this song 'WOW' with Sabrina Carpenter! Anyways, back to this music video reaction, let's go!

The overall vibe of the music video was very colourful with a lot of interesting lyrics and visuals which were very well edited together to create a masterpiece. At the beginning of the video you see a slim guy sitting on the edge of his bed in a white t shirt, which is a nice simple way to introduce a character, and it seemed as if Zara's singing and dancing was happening through pixels and different 3D effects, as she wasn't actually in the same room as him, but instead on a wall in front of him.

Her introductory outfit was in a tight black and white dress where she sings lyrics including 'Baby, I'm not even in a gown, I'm just in a t shirt on the couch' - which could simply be her stating that she's not always feeling or looking her best, but her secret lover doesn't mind that...and sometimes being 'dressed down' makes it more exciting for when you do decide to go full glam or choose to wear your most sylish outfits. One of the other highlights from the music video was the galaxy type shots that were showcased throughout the video with mirror like shots of multiple Zara's, various stars or glimmers of light that shone on the screen and it brought a really interesting, 'out of space' vibe to the video.

I must add that I loved the scenes with the bright pink background, and the colours of her outfits matched with the colour instantly - also her hair looks stunning! Some of the final lyrics I wanted to touch upon were 'If I can't have you, I don't want no one' which suggests that she has found love, and wants to continue investing time and money into him, rather than trying to find somebody else who won't be able to impress her anymore. 'Make your jaw drop, make you say oh my god' were some of the repeated lyrics in the chorus of the song, and they were sung really well, I like the rhythm of the vocals, and it's great that she can almost compare herself chilling out on the coach, but then also being able to dress up, look glamorous and make people look at her! She's a confident individual, and for only 23 years old, she's had some great experiences, collaborated with some amazing people and won all sorts of awards - but she'll be sticking around for a long time!
