Hey all,
Today's music video review is Zara Larsson's new song with Young Thug called 'Talk About Love'. At only 23 years of age, Zara has collaborated with some of the best artists around, and I think she'll be around for a very long time...and Young Thug is one of the most well know rappers, also for his collaborations, so let's see if they'll end up working together again in the future! Enough chat, more review! So here we go...
Compared some of Zara's previous music videos, this one definitely has more of a theatrical way of expressing her emotions, rather than just through the lyrics of the song. There is an opening shot to begin the video with teddies in-front of a television which could clearly show Zara's soft side, but then you quickly see her dancing with a slim athletic male in a white singlet top, with a flow of different moves, leading them from room to room. The chorus of the song is all about talking about love, but some of the lyrics Zara sings, include; 'Don't want to go there' which initially identifies that she's happy spending time with people and getting to know them...but doesn't want to speak about any sort of romance or love.
Lyrics from the chorus include 'I can make your dreams come true overnight, I'll do anything you like' which is a simple way of Zara explaining that she's got a lot of money, or she is able to help somebody out, once she builds up that connection with them...but goes on to sing 'But I won't talk about love...I want to stay here in the moment, don't want to get lost in emotions' which is something that is quite difficult, especially if you're wanting to build a connection with somebody, but one person doesn't want to take it further...what happens next? Is it just a one off, can you go back to being friends, or do you wait for time to just 'do it's thing'?
During Young Thug's scenes, he is seen leaving his car, talking to Zara through a wired phone, where you can see that she is sitting next her dancer who is wanting her to get off the phone so they can continue where they were before. The colour of these shots are a pinky/red colour which add a bit of personality to the scene, and also make the shot come to life, compared to Zara's video shots which don't necessarily have much artificial colour, as there is a lot of colour in the scenes themselves. She and her dancer run upstairs and she sings the lyrics 'Love always goes south in the worst ways' which could be something she had discovered from past relationships, and although she's only wearing a bra and green underwear at this point in the music video...it's almost like she's teasing, but doesn't want to take the friendship/banter/fun any further. She continues to go on and sing 'it;s not the time to bring it (love) upto me or I'll just walk away...and the whole music video was able to showcase this topic but through an over expressive way, through dancing...and she seems to be 'running away' via the dance moves, as her and the dancer end up outside, and then underwater together...about to kiss, but also quite far apart! It was definitely not something I was expecting Zara to be a part of, but the overall vibe of the music video is quite entertaining and quite comedic at times too!
