Hello! Another new gameshow, another blog post to speak about it! This new show is hosted by comedian Michael McIntyre and involves three potential contestants and seven celebrities with one chance of winning a large prize pot of money!
Before the show, each celebrity chose the category they specialise in and became the 'golden expert'. This week the experts and their categories were:
Mel B 'Spice Girls',
Gok Wan 'Fashion',
Joey Essex 'Dating',
Richard Arnold 'Television',
Jason Mansford 'Australia',
Susie Dent 'Words' and
Dermot O Leary 'World War II'.
First, it was time to meet the three potential contestants who were Angela, Leome and Jen and it was time to spin for the first person to come and play!
The game is simple...contestant chooses category, and if the wheel spins onto the 'golden expert' for that category and they answer the question correctly, £10,000 is added to the pot, if it's anybody else other than the expert, a respectable £3,000 is added! Before looking at the question, the contestant has to 'shut down' a celebrity they don't think will be very good at that particular category, and therefore they have to avoid on their spin.
Up first was Leome who chose the category 'Words' for his first question. He decided to shut down Joey, and the wheel landed on the fashion expert, Gok! The question was about spelling, and they got the question right, adding £3,000 to the prize pot. This category was then removed from the wheel with six remaining!
The second category chosen was 'Spice Girls' and he decided to shut down Jason straightaway...and luckily the wheel landed on Mel B! They got the question correct and added £10,000 to the prize pot, now at a total of £13,000! This category was then removed from the wheel with five remaining!
The third question was related to the category of 'Dating'. To add another £10,000 to the prize pot, the wheel needed to land on Joey...but instead Leome decided to shut down Richard, and it was over to Gok once again to help with the answer! Unfortunately they came up with the wrong answer (Four to six months), when in fact the correct answer was Less than three months, and Leome was 'spun' out of the game!
Jen was the next player to face the wheel, with the first chosen category as 'TV'. Again, the expert on this category was Richard, but she instantly decided to shut down Susie, and the wheel landed on Dermot. The pig related question helped Jen add another £3,000 to the total prize pot, which now stands at £16,000!
Her second category choice was 'Dating', and as Richard got his 'expert question' incorrect he was instantly shut down, and Jen decided to shut down Gok. The wheel landed on Jason who had to help with a question about a dating show where ex-couples reunite...they chose 'Dating' but the correct answer was 'Eating, and sadly it was time to say goodbye to Jen!
The third and final player Angela was up to play as the wheel chose her! She decided to pick 'Australia' as her first category, and hoped for the wheel to land on Jason...She shut down Gok and had Mel B as her helper. The question was to name the pub from the soap 'Neighbours', and by correctly guessing 'The Waterhole', she added another £3,000 to the prize pot, bring the total to £19,000!
Her second category was 'Dating', with expert Joey waiting to help! She decided to shut down Susie and it was over to Dermot to help out with the question! With the help of his Tinder knowledge, they were able to add another £3,000 to the prize pot, now standing at £22,000!
The final two categories that could be chosen were 'Fashion' or 'World War II', and Angela decided to go with 'Fashion'. Joey got his question wrong on his expect category so was shut down instantly, and Angela decided to shut down Jason. It was over to Gok to help her add another £10,000 to the prize pot, and by correctly answering who the designer was for the 'Little Black Dress', the prize fund now stood at £32,000!
Michael McIntyre announced that for the final category, anybody that the wheel has not spun on yet; (which was Richard, Joey and Susie) were now worth £6,000 if chosen by the wheel, Dermot could help add another £10,000 as 'World War II' was his chosen category, and everybody else would add £3,000! Unfortunately Richard and Angela they were unable to answer the question correctly to the name of a place not mentioned in Winston Churchill's famous 'Fight of the beaches' speech, by saying 'Landing grounds' instead of 'Skies', so Angela was spun out of the game!
For the final time, one of the contestants was going to be chosen by the wheel and they would face the final category 'World War II'! It was Leome that was chosen, and again, the two celebrities who had not been selected by the wheel (Joey and Susie); were now worth £6,000 if the wheel landed on them. Firstly Leome decided to shut down Gok, and for the final question to clear all of the categories from the board, he was helped by Susie to fill in the blank of a propaganda poster...and by correctly answering 'The Factories', another £6,000 was added to the prize pot, bring the final total to £38,000!
There was one final twist before the show was to come to a close. The celebrity experts were ranked from the 'best performer' to the 'worst performer' and the ranking was as follows:
(1) Dermot, (2) Gok, (3) Susie, (4) Richard, (5) Jason, (6) Mel B and at (7) Joey
If the contestant decided to go with Richard, who was in the middle, and get the question right...he would win £38,000.
If the contestant decided to go with Dermot, who was at the top, and get the question right...he would have his money halved, to £19,000.
If the contestant decided to go with Joey, who was at the bottom, and get the question right...he would have his money doubled, to £76,000
Leome decided to go with Joey...to try and double his money!
The final categories on the wheel were 'Movies', 'Dragons', 'USA' and 'Football' and the final question landed in the 'USA' category! The question was 'Niagara Falls is located on the border between Ontario, Canada and which US state?': Pennsylvania, Michigan, New York and Ohio, and before Joey could even step in to offer assistance, Leome said 'Don't worry, I think I know the answer', and by correctly saying 'New York', he won £76,000!
