Hey everyone,
Today's blog post is going to be fun to write, as 2018's Love Island star Wes Nelson has traded the villa for the vocals, having released his debut track 'See Nobody' back in September of 2020 alongside Hardy Caprio. Here's my review!
At the beginning of 'See Nobody', the majority of the music seemed to be set at night time, with Wes being seen in a red spotlight. The video also featured a variety of expensive cars with both of the boys driving in them. Some of Wes's opening lyrics included 'running through the ends like Batman' which either suggests that he is a very fast runner, or that he was referring to driving quickly to get from one destination to another. He explains that 'they don't wanna listen, but now they're trying to act' which suggests that people who didn't appreciate or accept Wes, are now trying to act like they were supporting him since the beginning of his career. He is seen wearing different hooded jumpers and joggers, which is a casual style of outfit for music video but seems to work really well.
Some of the scenes are filmed in empty car parks with only background light coming from some of the vehicles that are parked up, or the background lights of the city. Outside the ExCel London centre, both of the boys seem to be driving around, making the most of empty venues. Wes speaks about a place in North London called Golders Green, which could be where he is originally fro, but explains that he's going to 'be somewhere far away, with nothing in my way', suggesting that there are people putting rules in place, not allowing him to fully be himself, even though he have built quite a large following for himself over the last 3 years.
Hardy Caprio began his rap by stating that his income was 'disposable', which hints that he is very rarely not making money, and that there are possible multiple streams of ways that he is able to make money; whether that be through brand deals, social media posts or creating and directing music. He also asks 'where's that girlwho no snap and insta, you know the rules' which also seems to explain that the types of girls that they go for, aren't actively posting on social media, or can at least keep their relationships private from the world. Hardy seems to explain that other girls are fed to the tigers, adding 'yeah we did them like baskin' - hinting at the Carole Baskin case where she supposedly killed her own husband.
