Hello everyone!
In this music video review, I decided to take a listen to Tom Grennan's new song 'Little Bit of Love' as he is soon to be releasing an album and this seems to be one of the first singles he has teased us with! He's a 25 year old singer songwriter originally from Bedford and now living in London. Without any further delay, here's my review!
The music video opened with a shot of Tom sitting in front of a window with an incredibly blurred out orange background, but also helped his shape stand out a little bit. The variety of camera angles that introduced him were all quite interesting to watch as the camera panned back from Tom being inside, to him looking incredibly angry and standing on the grass outside what looked like a council estate building. Some of Tom's opening lyrics included 'I'm stepping on broken glass and I know this is my final jar' which could explain that he's having to tread very carefully but he knows that he will be able to have a normal life soon, once all the difficulties are resolved. In the song he seems to be accompanied by a younger boy who could be a younger brother, and they seem to get on real well, and even put up a swimming ool outside, practicing different strokes.
Tom continues to sing whilst wearing a pink sweater and pointing his fingers to his head by saying 'I've been holding onto the pieces, swimming in the deep end', and explaining that the air he is breathing won't help with his healing, which indicates that there are more than just physical issues that he could be having, as people often 'heal' after they've spoken to people about their worries. You can see Tom talking to some of his alpha male friends, one of whom holds up a picture, so it's probably their next target of who to either steal money from or attack. The young boy realises that there is something very wrong with his older brother Tom and they start to have an argument. The young boy takes the bag with all the oney and thrws it into the swimming pool which obviously makes Tom very angry, as he's obviously been given the money to keep it secure or for the job he helped the boys with earlier in the video. There are also some extra shots of Tom with a black and red tint, which could be the inner anger or stress of having to deal with so many things at the same time.
Towards the end of the video, a parcel seems to be thrown through their window with a note saying 'tomorrow', and Tom and his brother realise that they are better together as a team. Tom walks outside of the apartment where he is greeted by the alpha males and the man that was shown in the photograph earlier on, and it's the same shot that was shown at the beginning of the music video. One of the other lines that Tom sings includes the words 'I try to fly but I lose my wings too soon' which could explain he's not ready to handle life by himself, so he might feel better having his little brother by his side. At the end of the music vifeo, both Tom and his brother run out of their council flat and jump into a river...but for what reason, I'm not too sure? They can be seen both staring into the camera with sleeping bags, memories on photographs and a sleeping bag each, which could show that they have moved from the dangerous environments they originally lived in, to somewhere a bit more secure!
