'The Sister' - Episode 2 of the Psychological thriller review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all!

After the drama that occurred in the first Episode, let's see what happens tonight...! (27/10/2020)

To begin this episode, there was a quick glimpse back to 2013, where Holly is putting up pictures of her sister Elise onto one of the walls in their room, with no revelation from Nathan about the truth...

Oh, the scare that happened was just Holly entering the house at 9pm, 2 hours after her planned meal with Nathan...and that was because of a problem with a sale at work, and she lost her phone. She spoke to Nathan about her constant periods and that she wants a break. Nathan suggests that they go on a holiday, like Greece for example? He admits that he wants her to be happy; 'I want you to be happy...that's the only thing I care about'...even though he's somehow involved with her sister's murder. Bit creepy and crazy!

Back at the party where Nathan happens to be constantly checking out Elise, he's met with Bob who he admits to about not enjoying parties...Bob suggests drugs can help with that (not recommended, but some people get involved with that...just be careful if you do decide to go down this route). During their little chat, Bob explains that 89% of people suffer from post bereavement hallucationations where they 'see things' including ghosts, and from his own personal experiences, that's why he believes in it. He goes on to say that it's not about proving if ghosts are real or not, but in fact WHY and WHERE they exist. Just before the first advert, Nathan is seen with a black lady walking towards him in a shiny dress...wishing him a happy new year, but he's unsure who she is...or is he unsure?

The next part of this episode shows Nathan in court, a year after the disappearance, in 2010, explaining his version of the story in regards to his interactions with Elise. After being questioned he explains it was only himself and Bob in the car on their way home, and continues to say he doesn't remember speaking to anyone called Elise, because there were so many people at the party (and without having to explain...he'd had a few drinks!). Then we see him, Bob and Elise all in the car in a very very quiet and dark area, where Elise describes the story of a woman who they call 'grey lady' or 'witch' and that the area they are in is haunted. Bob asks her if she's seen this woman and she reponds with a giggle as if he's just asked a stupid question...and then while Bob went off for a 'slash', they snort some drugs in the back of the car and continue giggling and laughing. Fast forward to the 2010 interview, the people asking Nathan questions state that they had a live image of Elise in the car with him and she was last reported alive at 4:18am, after knocking on her ex boyfriends house...and that she is alive. Nathan is still confused, and they continue to say 'She managed to get home safe, and she was alive, so you're not a suspect in this case' - he's obviously relieved, but then if his plan was to kill her...she might expose him or come back to haunt him??!?!?

Mr & Mrs Fox (Holly's parents) welcome Nathan into their house whilst he waits for Holly to finish completing some errands for the family. He's brought flowers and introduces himself as one of Holly's friends, oh, and admits that they went on a date a couple of weeks ago but it didn't go very well, especially after she admitted the personal situation she was dealing with. After she gets home, they go for a walk in their garden and she is confused and slightly angry as to why he decided to turn up at her house uninvited, but he later reveals it's because she wasn't answering his calls...Anyway, she feels that he has to invite him to Sunday lunch otherwise her parents wouldn't forgive her!

Nathan, Holly and her closest friends all go to a restaurant, and he has brought a bouquet of flowers for Jackie, who is usually always late to any event. They recognise eachother as she walks in, as she is the female officer that interviewed him at the police station and cleared him of being involved with the murder. She asks if anyone smokes, to which Nathan answers 'No'; but then she re phrases her question and says she wants to do the 'warning chat' from brides maid to the soon to be groom and Nathan escorts her outside. After revealing he wouldn't ever think of hurting his wife Holly, Jackie replies 'I won't let you hurt her...otherwise I'll bury you' - interesting words to use, especialy when the casethey dealt with together was all about the burying of somebody close to both of them. Nathan is awoken early by a call from 'Holly'...which turns out to be Bob, who's managed to take Holly's phone, waiting outside the Fox family home to reveal to the parents what actually happened with Elise's disappearance and to reveal that Nathan was involved, as he refused to help Bob move the body. Bob gives him a 5 second countdown, and eventually Nathan says he will help him...before creepily driving out of the Fox's driveway and heading home.

In the final segment of this episode, Nathan becomes very angry as not only has his wife's phone been stolen, but he is annoyed that Bob has threatened him; stating that if he ever threatens a member of his family again, he will personally kill him. Once the two of them end up at the same place several years earlier, he admits that he sometimes visited the same location by himself, which Nathan replied with 'Who would want to do that??'. He obvously told Holly that he had some 'things to sort out' and avoided attending the Fox family gathering so that he could help Bob, and instead Jackie was invited to the family gathering. Holly and Jackie have a deep discussion where Holly reveals multiple changes in Nathan's behaviour, including the fact that a man called Bob makes random visits to their house and that his nightmares keep coming back; which happen when he is either stressed or emotional. She goes on to say 'He might seem sane on the inside, but on the outside, he;s pretty mental' and continues to say that his friend Bob seems to have some mental health issues but doesn't seem to know much about their friendship. Jackie looks concerned, but showcases the facial expression that she knows something twisted is happening with the stories being told and actions portrayed by Nathan.

Before the episode comes to a close, Jackie speedily drives back to the police station and brings up Nathan's profile who she plays a short clip of, from the interview video where he said 'It was only me and Bob' - relating to them being in the car on the way home, and she knows this is a lie as there is a picture with Nathan and Elise in the car. She them brings up Bob's profile, looks at his interview video and wants to try and piece the case togehter, but still isn't sure if Bob is involved, nor does she know who he actually is...Find out on tomorrow's episode! Will Jackie confront the boys? Will she tell Holly and the Fox family what's happened? Or will she let the situation get worse...?
