Hey all,
Before I start this blog I just wanted to say HELLO, I hope everyone is dealing alright with this pandemic. It's a weird and crazy time for everyone, but I am struggling and I wanted to reach out and say that whoever reads this...you're NOT alone! I have been actively looking for part/full time jobs since March 2020 and although I found a hiring manager that finally said 'Yes', it wasn't really the right opportunity for me, and although I met some great people at the office, I was also dealing with my own personal problems, so after a month I decided to quit the job, take some time out, and now I am ready to put myself back onto the job market.
Now that's over with, let me write a quick review of what's happened in 'The Sister' so far! (26/10/2020)
According to the description of the show, Nathan is a devoted married man who is shocked with an 'unwelcome face' from his past as they turn up on the step. The first episode tests how far Nathan will go in order to keep a secret. Oh, and Nathan is played by Russell Tovey who I recognise from 2003 comedy 'The Job Lot'...check it out if you haven't already! BUT READ MY REVIEW FIRST!
*cough cough* Alright so in the first 15 minutes of the first Episode we have met the characters Nathan, his wife Holly and Nathan's mate known as Bob...who seems a little bit creepy I must say. On the news (7 years before the current scenes) a woman called Elise has gone missing and all Nathan seems to be doing is overdosing on drugs. Bob delivers a CD to Nathan's house for him to listen at a loud volume and to go to the particular area in the forest at Newbrook Green. On the tape is 99% white noise, but then you hear a faint sound of a female voice saying 'Nathan..., 'I'm not dead'. He is obviously in shock and leaves the area, to which the audience are now thinking 'Omg, was Nathan involved with the missing case of the girl?' or 'Was Elise somebody related to him???'
In the next segment of the show there was a 'throwback to the past' back to 2013 where Nathan was a car sales expert and his 'not wife at the time' Holly, an estate agent. 7 years ago they didn't know eachother, but he manages to find her number and ask for her personally to find somewhere to live...After their phone call she asks how he got her number, which he replies 'Oh, a friend of mine recommended you, and said that you were very honest' - usually stereotypically the opposite for estate agents, but some are lovely I guess!
Then there was a time travel 4 years prior, in 2009. Nathan and Bob meet up and happen to be discussing something which doesn't come to light until a bit later on in the episode. Bob is a regular guest on an episode helping people deal with paranormal activities and problems that people are facing in their homes, almost like a spirit God? If that's what they're called?? Bob then asks Nathan if he's listened to the CD, managing to get through the white noise and try to hear out for voices. He adds that on the CD's he has been creating for 15 years, there are usually multiple voices, but on this particular CD there is only one familiar voice. At first Nathan says he doesn't her any voices...but then as Bob is about to play it, he frantically says that he heard a female voice, but not 'HER' voice. After a bit of a dramatic conversation, we realise that Nathan may have had some involvement in his wife's sisters disappearance, but we cannot be sure. Bob tells Nathan that he might not want to leave any evidence, especially even the smallest bit of DNA, so the best thing to do is probably move it...but Nathan wants to leave the body where it is...
In the next part of the show, Nathan and Holly are previously seen in a pub after Holly's had a few drinks... (Let's guess around 2012, and the party I am about to describe was in 2009). She reveals that she's married and that she also lost her little sister years ago after she attended a party and never came home. From what she described, her and her husband left the party early, but Elise, the younger sister wanted to stay later (as she was probably already drunk and wanted to just dance the night away). Anyways, throughout the party back in 2009, Nathan had his eye on the gorgeous girl, and Nathan's friend Bob also appeared...we are unsure how either of the guys were invited or got into the party, but all will be releaved in the fifth part of this first episode!
To begin this final section, Nathan has already missed 18 calls from Bob, which is a slight concern...as that's not what friends are supposed to do. Whilst he is at work, in what seems to be a really important meeting, a 'guest' is waiting for him at the reception and the lady at the front desk says that apparently 'it's important'. Nathan takes 5 minutes away from the office to speak to Bob. He reveals that Elise, the missing/dead sister of his current wife Holly, has been haunting him...one example is that he saw her standing at the end of his bed. He explains to Nathan that he cannot just wait for the situation to go away or pretend that the situation isn't happening. Nathan repeatedly says 'She's not here, she's not there', to which Bob replies...'Help me and no-one has to know. Just you, me...and her' - otherwise he has threatened to mention what's happened to Holly, which Nathan understandably doesn't want happening. Once Nathan appears home from work, ready with the takeaway that his wife Holly wanted, she isn't home nor is she answering her phone...Nathan is obviously a little scared at this point and the tention builds up in the final scene before he begins to speak out loud. He says under his breath; 'No, you can't be here' (or something like that) and goes on to say 'If you're here...do something'. A door moves, with a light already on, so is that the dead sister coming back to haunt him too, or just a coincidence, and his wife is just coming out of the shower??!?! Who knows? We'll find out in Episode 2 tomorrow!
