Hey everyone!
In today's blog post I will be reviewing a new song called 'Go Down Deh' by a trio of artists; Spice, Sean Paul & Shaggy, and I hope you enjoy my review!
This music video was definitely something I have never experienced before. I must admit, I didn't understand most of the lyrics but the overall vibe of the song was great to watch. At the beginning and throughout the music video there were lots of amazing colours. At the begining of the video, I love how each of the individual artists was introduced, and the setting of the environment was a clear resemblance to a night club setting. Some of the initial lyrics sung by Spice included being able to 'keep up with my energy' which is something that a lot of people in the professional and creative indusries have to ensure that they are consistantly doing, otherwise people will forget about them.
During Shaggy's verse he sung about how you're doing to do it 'as good as this Reggae guy', almost hinting that he's one of the greatest reggae singers and you can't really compete with his style. In the video, there were a lot of bright lights, interesting outfits and locations and lots of great backing dancers. I love how each of the singers performed directly into the camera, and the variety of camera shots made it very visually pleasing to watch.
There were also lots of blue, red and green colours, as well as various shots where it was almost pitch black with just several flashes of colour. During Sean Paul's verse there were more promiment colours such as blue and red which helped make the atmosphere of those particular shots, stand out a lot. Spice also sung in the song about being 'one of a kind' and making reference to her Caribbean heritage which helps her stand out from other female rappers and performers. Towards the end of the video, she is seen wearing a tight white dress with various sparkles and sequins which looks incredible, and there is a transition to a shot of her wearing a large yellow jacket whole dancing in the rain. The music video can be described as a 'creative visual mess' but works really well, helps to tell a great story and the actual song itself has a very memorable tune.
