Hey all!
For today's music review, I will taking a look at a music video by an artist called Spencer Sutherland who appeared on the British version of The X Factor back in 2017, and that gave him a bigger platform to help get his music out there! He has released a music video called 'Indigo' which also happens to be the name of one of my University friends, so I thought I'd listen to and watch the video to see what it's all about!
The concept of this music video was very simple, but also quite sophisticated and I really enjoyed watching it. It's always strange seeing singer/songwriters on talent shows, and then finally being able to see them releasing their own music, with unique video concepts and ideas.
In this music video, the song's lyrics start with 'Hey Indigo, don't let me go' which could identify that he is either singing to a girl called Indigo, or maybe his favourite place to be is somewhere with Indigo colours (as shown by the pink, purple and blue background which follows him throughout the piece). From beginning to end, Spencer walks towards the camera across what seems to be either a muddy field, or a sandy/isolated area with a road, which makes me feel that this is a real road, or it's a projection on a screen and Spencer is walking on the spot! Either way, the idea is great!
Some of the other lyrics from the song include 'I'll never let you go' which suggest that he is likely stating that he is loyal when it comes to relationships, and goes on to sing 'You make me feel like I'm soaring and I can't ignore it anymore' which means that somebody is doing something to his heart, and instead of being pulled down, somebody is helping him to spread his wings, whether it's through music, love or just general day by day living. To accompany these beautiful lyrics there are some trumpet instruments in the background which add a bit of character to this part of the song - and Spencer is also seen holding an umbrella prop which he propells for a few seconds before throwing behind him on the sandy path, along with some lightning strikes which can also be seen in the far distance.
Other memorable lyrics from the song include 'I don't want to miss out on this moment...even simple sh*t never gets boring' which means that whatever he is currently experiencing, he doesn't want to stop experiencing it...and also adds that doing simple things doesn't get boring. This could just indicate that he's not thinking about what he's doing, but enjoys the time he is spending with this lucky individual known as 'Indigo'. I really enjoyed watching this music video and I am very excited for more music from this talented singer/songwriter - and he's American which means he's got a really hot accent!
