Hey!
Today's music video review will be Snap Capone's video for 'Khalas' (which I initially read in an accent and thought said 'colours').
The music video was only 2 minutes long, but the overall message that I got was that he was sending out a message to those who might not appreciate him as an individual. The opening of the video shows a shot of an expensive white car, with credits to 23 Formation for creating the video. Snap is seen walking around a garage which seems to be filled with a variety of other cars, but the white one is getting the most attention. This could show that Snap feels as if he's at the top of his game and that he's superior compared to others in the rap industry. He raps the lyrics 'Snap be a murderer, I got coke in your area', comparing himself to the Grim Reaper and asking 'Who's scarier?'. I think he wants to showcase that he's a tough individual and that he's able to stick up for himself in situations where he has to speak up. He goes on to rap 'all I know is guns and violence' which count be things has witnessed growing up, or in the community he's grown up in. The following lyrics include 'f*ck rap, I got Brits', to show that it doesn't matter about whether people think his rapping is good, he's already received the recognition that he deserves, or he is hoping that in the future he will continue to achieve more awards!
Snap goes on to sing about how he's got 'expensive whips' and 'exquisite cribs', showing that although he might have people that don't agree with his lifestyle, he's clearly successful with the things that he owns, and how he has been able to get there. He goes on to explain that he made '100k first f*cking week', which is a lot of money to make in 7 days, but it's also achievable if you work hard and commit to achieving your goals. Throughout these shots, I like the white clouds of smoke that are hovering over the screen, as it helps bring the black and white visuals together including laying the video, shots of Snap and also the smoke in the foreground.
Some of the other lyrics towards the end of the music video include 'stand for something or fall for nothing' which is a really interesting phrase that I've not heard before. I guess it means to have values and interests that you are able to speak up for, or just be another person who stays silent and doesn't help to achieve something. He also goes on to sing 'he's p*ssed because his girlfriend's mad on me' which could either mean that a girl who's in a relationship is still interested in Snap, or by being 'mad on me', she's angry. I'm not too sure what that means, but it's definitely an interesting lyric I thought I would try and analyse. The music video was really well put together, I understand the majority of the lyrics, and it was a really creative addition to have the video stretched out than an ordinary music video, because it helps it stand out from other recent music that has dropped!
