Selena Gomez & Rauw Alejandro 'Baila Conmigo' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all,

For today's music review, I will watching and listening to Selena Gomez's new single 'Baila Conmigo' alongside rapper Rauw Alejandro! Without further delay, here's my review!

In this music video, the lyrics were all in Spanish (similar to an earlier review I did of another Selena Gomez song, which meant I had to have the subtitles on again, but I think the song was overall really relaxing, and I enjoyed the visuals from beginning to end! At the start, there are several motorcycles travelling across the beach, and there's a few transition shots where you can see clothes hanging up outside, before the camera pans to the left and shows a dark room with somebody sitting on the sofa. Some of the opening lyrics sung by Rauw are 'Not understanding eachother is better' and I think this relates to love, as usally 'opposites attract' is something that a lot of peoploe live by, and being similar might turn you away from somebody.

Selena goes on to sing 'You want me to fall into temptation...look how your accent gets me' - which are lines that identify that somebody is teasing her into wanting more, and she goes on to say 'I don't understand a lot of it...dance dance dance with me'. Personally, I can relate to this! Having been a University student for 3 years, I was meeting people from all across the world on my nights out at bars and clubs, and during some of those entertaining nights out, I would be dancing with people who didn't speak English (or is wasn't their native language), but we were somehow able to communicate through dancing! Weird, I know, but that's the kind of vibes I get from this music video.

At first, I was a bit confused why there were so many characters being introduced, but I realised it was telling multiple stories at the same time, of people either practicing their dancing or trying to impress somebody with their dance moves. At first, there were 2 girls who were dancing on the beach, with one of them trying to show off to the other one...and there was a guy in a green singlet sitting on a motorbike watching. Other scenes included a girl with curly hair dancing in the cleaners and multiple motorbike dudes in a circle, with one girl trying to make an impression on the main rider! Selena's lyrics continued to explain the idea of love by saying 'How do I tell you that I don't want to speak about love', similar to her other song where she just wanted to live in the moment rather than getting any closer to somebody.

Some of the other scenes included that same motorbike girl from earlier listening to Selena's song on her phone, and the guy she was trying to impress, began dancing for her! We see shots of a guy falling into the river surrounded by whales, a nice silhouette of a guy sitting on the beach and then back on his motorcycle to win over this girl through dance! There were a variety of shots both inside and outside, during the daytime and night time, on the beach, at a party and on motorcycles where the theme of the song was all about enjoying the movement of dance, rather than dancing to try and impress anyone romantically. The final lyrics of the song are 'Dance dance dance with me, kiss me just one time, that way I have a reason to see you again' - which bring the song to a close, and also makes a good concluding message! Kissing somebody once, doesn't mean you're going to end up being in a full time relationship and commit to being a couple, but it's just a way of saying hello or goodbye, especially in other cultures around the world, and it was a cute way to end the music video...with the female and male motorcyclists travelling away together with smiles on their face. The song ended with Rauw singing his own name, Selena's name and then 'Tell me Tainy' who I believe is the producer of the song!
