Hey everyone!
Now that Olivia Rodrigo has her 'driver's license', she has released a new single called 'deja vu' and has also revealed that her new album will be released in May 2021! Without further delay, here's my video review!
At the begining of the video she can be seen licking an ice cream, driving on a highway. She sings the words 'strawberry ice cream, one spoon for two' as that seems to be the first item of food that she can remember sharing with somebody else. She's seen in a white car, and a reflection of a young girl can be seen in the back mirror, but Olivia doesn't notice and stops on a road which is filled with lots of colourful flowers and bushes. Olivia is seen to walk through a rocky archway in a white top, blue jeans and black converse shoes, singing the lyrics 'bragging to all your friends saying she's so unique' as she enters a room with a girl that looks almost like her, in a similar green dress. This makes it obvious that the girl (whose name is Talia Ryder) is the new girlfriend of the person Olivia was previously dating. She goes on to sing 'do you get deja vu when she's with you?' almost teasing the lover about whether they do the same things as what Olivia used to do with this person, and quickly leaves the scene and wears the exact same dress Talia was wearing earlier.
While she's looking at herself in the mirror, a reflection of Talia appears, and Olivia enters a room which is full of television screens that show different videos and clips of Talia in the same places that she was in and decides to watch some of the videos. She sings the lyrics 'I bet she knows Billy Joel because you played her Uptown Girl' hinting at it was her that introduced the lover to this artist. Olivia added 'you probably tell her that you love her between the chorus and verse...she thinks it's special' which indicate that the new lover thinks she's being treated so wonderfully, when in actual fact, they treated Olivia badly, and it's almost a warning to the new girlfriend that she needs to be careful with falling in love with this individual. The next scene shows both Olivia and Talia walking on a blue and white environment both eating ice cream, with several shots of them in the same environment, or with Talia trying to run out of shot. This part of the video shows both Olivia and Talia wearing the same outfits and being at the same place at the same time, which could almost shocase that they are both in love with the same person at the same time, and the individual is double dating, which isn't a great thing to happen to anybody.
Olivia goes on to sing 'she doesn't know I was the one that taught you Billy Joel', adding further anger to her previous frustration, and after looking at Talia in multiple places, waving at her through the screens, she becomes incredibly confused, and there is a shot of Talia looking at a board which has a picture of Olivia, next to a red Ace card next to it - indicating that she either likes Olivia, or Olivia is her number one target. Olivia becomes very angry and smashes all of the computer screens that have Talia's face on it and makes the entire room look like a tip, and at the end of the video, Talia looks through the television at Olivia, and she has now entered the car from the begining of the video with her ice cream. It's almost like the roles are reversed, or Talia was the individual at the beginning who seemed to change positions with Olivia, as she was that obsessed with her.
