Hey everyone,
In this music video review, I will be discussing the latest song by Nathan Dawe, Anne-Marie and MoStack who collaborated on a track called 'Way Too Long'. Nathan Dawe has previously collaborated with Little Mix and Anne-Marie has been on fire with her collaborations over the past few years, including KSI, Doja Cat and James Arthur among others! Here's my review...
In the beginning of the music video, MoStack rapped the words 'yoyo' which was a great introduction to the song, and the initial setting was a colourful room with blue walls and pink bedsheets, and a lot of flashing colours. Anne-Marie can be seen in multiple places of the room at the same time, reading a book unenthusiastically whilst showcasing her pink hair and long pink nails, scrolling through different social media platforms on her phone. This is what a lot of people have been doing throughout the coronavirus pandemic, but it looks like she is ignoring all of the messages to ring Nathan Dawe. She sings the words 'I wish I could let go of us' which could relate to a previous relationship she was in.
At the next scene, Anne-Marie can be seen in a red outfit and hood, driving through an expensive area with Nathan Dawe, and rapper MoStack takes control of the next verse of lyrics. They can be seen travelling to a quite posh party house, with MoStack singing the words 'it's been too long, she can't handle me, my money pretty like Anne Marie' which indicates that he must be in a good position financially as he referred to the money as being 'pretty' which is a positive statement. The rest of the guests can be seen at a table meal, and MoStack goes on to sing about a variety of female singers he would be happy around; including 'do that same dance as Cardi B', referring to her quite unique style of dancing and also explains that instead of 'needing your girl' he 'needs Adele', Mabel would also be a good option with just fun, no label, and Jade from Little Mix 'what you sayin' B?
During the last part of the music video, an entire group of people come running into the building where this party is happening, and after zooming in and out to a variety of polaroid pictures, Anne-Marie can be seen walking around outside in the garden where everyone else has frozen in a pose, and she takes the opportunity to photobomb one of the guest' pictures! She sings the words 'I can't help thinking about you, and the way that it was, I wish I could let go' which almost feels like she is having throwback thoughts to the previous relationship that she was in, thinking about how she could possibly move on with her life. A massive cloud of confetti is thrown around the garden with lots of guests singing, dancing and smiling, and then there's a small transition to a shot of the three performers in a black room with white lights, all wearing white or grey outfits to fit with that particular environment. Anne-Marie sings the words 'it's been way too long since you've been gone', which could either speak about life feeling a little different, or it's the longest time that she has spent away from this individual - either backstory being quite upsetting, but like Dua Lipa, it's better for Anne-Marie to get her feelings out in the open, as it means she could write albums and albums about all the people that may have treated her or her friends wrong, and continue to be more and more successful because of the stories!
At the end of the video, a line appeared on the screen stating 'after every storm, comes a rainbow' which could signify that after something bad happens, something good will always follow, which is a great thing to read...especially whilst I'm sitting here and writing this review at 22 years old, and still living with my Nan! I need to grow up, so I'm searching for my rainbow.
