Hey all!
For today's video, I am going to be reviewing a new tune from my girls Little Mix, alongside music producer Nathan Dawe! The song is called 'No Time For Tears' (which fits in with the current life situation of being stuck in lockdown with nothing to do and nobody to see), but nevertheless, I thought I'd watch the video and see what it's all about! So without further ado, let's go go go!
When the music video first played, I was thinking 'Where are the girls?' but I think this was the first single of 2021 that doesn't feature of 4 of the girls in a music video, and since Jesy has now left the band, they probably didn't want to create a music video without her as it's probably a difficult time for everybody, so they wanted to get one of their 'mixers' involved. If I would have known about this opportunity, I would have signed up, but I didn't...
The beginning few shots show a girl with frizzy hair getting ready for her big day, which turns out to be an audition to be featured in the music video. She is seen looking in the mirror, brushing her teeth and there is Little Mix merchandise and items EVERYWHERE! During the 'auditions', Nathan is joined by two other judges - which could be a dig at The X Factor UK, the show that gave them all a platform, but as they described, were some of the worst years of their life. There were a variety of people singing, dancing and having fun, but it was time for them to select who was going to be featured in the music video! The panel looked like a real panel, as they were writing notes down and clapping along with some of the auditionees.
Some of the lyrics at this point in the song include 'You ain't gonna see my cry'...followed by 'so over you' which are lyrics that Jesy sang in the song, and this could simply show that nobody is going to make her feel sad or lonely, and that this person is more of just a throwback memory that isn't important enough to focus on. Other lines by the girls include 'I don't need your sorry, this is not a pity party' which could identify that 'sorry' just isn't good enough, and the best thing to do in this situation is just to forgive, forget and f*ck off! (Or that's my interpretation anyway!). I also like the zoom in shots of the @littlemix_fan account as it shows that the process of being chosen was fair, and in the story, they also gave credit to the featured fan!
In the final shots of the video, there are various shots in a bowling alley with really pretty and colourful lights, which is always a great addition to a music video! You can also see the lucky fan singing along to the music in a black glittery dress with matching shoes, white socks and full makeup glam, dancing along with some of the directors and assistants in front of the camera - and she is working the camera very well! One of the other interesting parts of the bowling shots is that they have named the 4 players 'No', 'Time', 'For' and 'Tears' which make quite a nice visual to be included within the music video, before transitioning to various clips of the cast and crew.
It's a great storyline for a music video...to have it set out like a real casting process, and it was truly a masterpiece...especially because Jade also helped with the songwriting of the song, along with Nathan himself and one of my favourite British male artists at the moment...MNEK who also helped to write 'Sweet Melody' and some of their previous hits!
