Hey everyone,
In today's blog post I will be reviewing a familiar singer/songwriter who I have worked with before and also seen perform live multiple times! Mollie Ralph is a Nottingham based performer who has released her first EP titled 'Old Cafe' and has since began releasing music videos to accompany some of her songs including 'Traitor' and 'Fella' with others to be released soon! Here's my review to her latest song!
The start of this music video begins with the words 'she goes out at night with him', almost hinting at the fact that this guy isn't worthy of having his name mentioned, but could also explain why she is the 'Nightwalker'. Mollie can be seen walking down quite a dark street in black high hells, flaunting her long dark brown hair, bright red lipstick and simple but glamorous all black outfit. She walks past several bright coloured doors which allow focus to be drawn on and off from Mollie, but allow the viewers to take notice of the lyrics she is singing. In some of the shots, you can see smoke coming from the chimneys behind her which is a good addition to the feel of the music video at this point in the song. Mollie also explains that whoever this female is doesn't end any of the nights well as 'her boobs are sore and her legs are thin...she never ends the night without broken skin', hinting that she's either continuously hurting herself or she ends up in bad situations which she might not be able to remember.
In the second verse, she sings the lyrics 'He picks her up and she asks for a light, the offers good and she don't look back' which suggests that whoever she is getting in a car with, she is aware of who they are, but the lyrics go on to say 'regret kicks in when the room turns black' which might indicate a sense of vulnterability as in the dark it's often quite difficult to be aware what's happening. There are multiple different shots of Mollie looking straight into the camera, with many shots that have blurred backgrounds, and the overall video seems like it's been shot in an old styled town. The lyrics towards the end of the song include the words 'She's a night walker, washing blood off her hands' which suggests that the female isn't as innocent as she may have made out to be at the beginning, but maybe she is the one that is causing trouble and harm for other people, or she's just been attacked and she doesn't want to reveal this to anybody close to her, so trying to get rid of the evidence. Mollie's final lyrics are 'What's she gonna do now' as in this type of situation it's difficult to work out what you're going to do next, especially when you are by yourself, but it's interesting that it's difficult to work out exactly what has happened, but also what is going to happen next.
