Hey all! Over the last few years, we have seen Miley Cyrus in many different forms, including as Hannah Montana, the phase where she cut her hair really short and swung on a 'Wrecking Ball' and now she has released a brand new album with collaborations with old friends including Billy Idol and Stevie Nicks, but also new friendships including a plead from her fans to collaborate with Dua Lipa, and I'm guessing the song is 'Hotter Than Hell' - but really, I'm excited to hear this one!
1 - 'WTF Do I Know'
The first song on the album seems like a really emotional song dedicated to her ex boyfriend. Some of the lyrics include 'crashing her car into somebody's mansion' and 'being naked, but making it fashion' which could be a reminder of some of the controversial moments in Miley's career. I'm more shocked at how quickly Miley has evolved into the woman she is today, and I'm very proud of how much she's developed! In this song she speaks about whether she is right or wrong about moving on from her previous relationship, admitting that she's now left him in his own misery. It's a good way for him to understand she's not interested in being in a relationship anymore and hopefully he is able to move onto somebody new who he isn't going to treat badly...
2 - 'Plastic Hearts'
The next song on the album is actually the name of the album, but even without listening to the song, it sounds as if she could be singing about fake love...with the word 'plastic' being recyclable. She goes on to sing that she wants to feel something and doesn't feel anything all night long...which could mean that people are trying to impress her or she's not able to find somebody she is interested in. I think this is a really good song as there are a mix of instruments including drums and electronic guitar which bring the song together really well. The chorus of the song has a varied speed and tone which also makes it quite easy to remember the lyrics for, including the 'California dreaming' which she mentions multiple times, as she might be trying to find love in California? Who knows...but I'd love to go to California now to find love!
3 - 'Angels Like You'
From the opening lyrics of this song, it sounds as if these lyrics are about Miley talking herself down, admitting that this 'angel' she has met deserves better than her, but they can still have fun...'I wish we never met on the day I leave' would be referring to a holiday she was on, and she just bumped into this person as she was heading back to their airport to come home...Some of the other lyrics in that section include 'I'm everything they said I would be' so this could be relating to the news stories that have mentioned her, or as this angel knows she's famous, he knows more about her than other people do. Either way, this is a really emotional song and it is my favourite out of the first three songs so far as it reveals a more innocent and open side to Miley!
4 - 'Prisoner' (feat Dua Lipa)
The first collaboration on the album is by Miley and Dua Lipa (I can't even believe I'm saying that...but she's done so well!). Anyways, back to the lyrics of the song...it sounds like the song 'Let's get Physical' but with more modern lyrics and a more rocky background beat. As both of these female artists have sung about previous relationships and love previously, it just makes sense that they describe some of their previous encounters as being 'prisoners', which could relate to the emotional connection and them feeling back if they were to walk away. That's what happens in relationships nowadays, with people being drawn back into relationships when they should be moving onto somebody new, or just being happy alone. 'Why can't you just let me go' are some of the lyrics that both of them sing throughout this song, so maybe it's people that they have stuck in their minds...but they're both strong females, so they could write one boss track and they're go running for miles!
5 - 'Gimme What I Want'
This song simply speaks about how Miley want a lover to just give her what she wants, with lyrics including 'give yourself to me' and 'you know what I need, and no-one likes to be alone' which are sort of teasing sentences, but also a way to intice somebody into making love. I remember using that line on a night out, 'Aww you can't go home alone, you can come to mine if you want?' - and the rest was history...I think in this song she goes on to sing 'give it to me and no-one else babe' which could signify that she wants to give this individual as much love as she can, and doesn't want him/her to mess around with other people as well! It was a little bit of a creepy song, but the meaning was quite easy to understand.
6 - 'Night Crawling' (feat Billy Idol)
What is night crawling? Well, in this song Miley describes it as 'when the devil is calling', so maybe that could relate to alcohol, drugs or some sort of illegal party. It's a great collaboration with Billy Idol, previous member of Generation X. I think the name of the song could also relate to being active once the night arrives and having fun? - but that's just my innocent mind thinking here...'When I hear my name I chase it' are other lyrics in the song, which would also signify that there are people that call her name to go and have fun, and she goes? I don't know...But it was an interesting song!
7 - 'Midnight Sky'
At the beginning of the song she sings about going home as she's had a long night, but goes on to say that she's 'never felt this good on her own'. In the song she speaks about 'running from everyone' as she doesn't feel the need to be with anyone in particular. I think this is the mentality that I have about life at the moment. As much as I do eventually want to have my own family and move in with somebody, at the moment, I'm just focusing on developing myself, finding work and enjoying the single life before it's taken from me and I have two people to care about! She sings 'see my lips on her mouth, everybody's talking now' which could explain that sometimes she kisses whoever she wants without any feeling or meaning behind it, but people will continue to speak about you or what you're doing, so do what you want, when you want to do it and enjoy spending time by yourself! It was a really cool song with nice background vocals and instruments!
8 - 'High'
Drugs drugs drugs...or she's in a good mood? This song started off as an acoustic song with raw lyrics accompying the guitar! She sings that she sometimes think about somebody but isn't sure why...maybe because she's high. I think that's the dangerous thing about taking drugs...although most people are careful, it can often bring back all sorts of emotions and make you think about things you might not want to relive. I've been a good boy and never taken or been involved with anything that includes drugs, but then some drugs are good...like the ones that your doctor prescribes you with! Don't be afraid of the word 'drugs'. Towards the end of the song there was a collection of 'Woah oh's' which brought the song to a soft close!
9 - 'Hate Me'
Hate is a strong word but there are definitely people I dont like...we all do, don't we? I think this song is one of those songs to get those who have their negative views and opinions to just step forward and being honest with how they feel. She goes on to say 'I wonder what would happen if I die', admitting that her friends would probably get really drunk and rally high, and hopes that this individual won't hate her on just that one day, to at least give her the respect she deserves. It's one of those songs which highlights the importance of negative views, because if people can't say them to your face, sing about it and they'll never know who it's about, and it's better that fighting back!
10 - 'Bad Karma' (feat Joan Jett)
'You think I'm sleeping when I'm actually sleeping in the night' are some of the opening lyrics to this song, where Miley admits to living a double life which can often bring on bad karma as she's describing herself as a heartbreaker. She goes on to say that she's a 'heartbreaker' and often 'does it' and thinks about it later. She also explains that she doesn't believe in love, so does what she wants to do...maybe going from one guy to the next guy, but it doesn't matter? As long as she's having fun and there's no emotions felt, she can do whatever she wants! I think the background noises was the collaboration part from Joan Jett, I'm not sure though! (Uh Huh).
11 - 'Never Be Me'
At the beginning of this song she explains all of the things that she will never be, including 'faithful', no matter how hard she tries. I think the song could be dedicated to a lover of her's who must want something more than a friendship, but Miley continues to decline the offer as she can't commit! Other things she says includes the fact that 'if you're looking for stable...that'll never be me' and 'if you're looking for someone to be all that you need...that'll never be me'' - which is a really open and honest thing to admit to her millions and millions of followers and fans, but at least she (and her lovers) know where she stands with 'love'. I am sure that a lot of people go through bad experiences of love and have similar thoughts to Miley, and eventually come to a stage where they give up, but others just need time to work out who they are and what they want before they can find 'the one'. It was a really sad song to listen to, but honesty in the best policy, and that's why I really like this song...it's definitely in the top three for me!
12 - 'Golden G String'
After looking at the title of this song, I thought this song was about the G string on a guitar, but in fact it's a 'thing' that you can wear. She sings the lyrics 'I think I should walk away...but I'll stay', admitting that people often told her to cover her body and she ended up going the other way, but being fully naked. She adds that it 'gives the newspapers something to write about' as it was a side of Miley that nobody had ever seen before, but it actually helped raise her platform even more. 'Maybe just caring for eachother is just too 1969' are lyrics that she sings about, which could relate to the type of world we are in today where everything is digital, everything is being controlled by old men, where in the olden days people would just be in conversations, meet their friends and not rely on digital formats to become 'popular' or 'famous'. In the end she speaks about 'walking away' which could relate to social media or being in the music industry, but the best intentions, she decides to stay? Maybe that's the meaning, but I don't know!
13 - 'Edge of Midnight' (feat Stevie Nicks; Midnight Sky Remix)
This song seems to be a 'spin off' from the original song at (7) - 'Midnight Sky' with a remix version featuring Stevie Nicks. It pretty much sounds the same, so nothing else to comment here!
14 - 'Heart Of Glass' (Live from the iHeart Festival)
The fourteenth song on the album is called 'Heart Of Glass' which she performed at the iHeart festival (and if you could have guessed, it's not an original song!). It's a cover of Blondie's original song but with a Miley makeover! I loved the cover and it't great that she's added it as an extra song on the album, especially because of the times we are currently in at the moment!
15 - 'Zombie (Live from the NIVA Save Our Stages Festival)
The final song on the album was another cover, this one was 'Zombie' a song by The Cranberries. I remember listening to this song many years ago, and it's still a great to this day! Love the fact that two cover songs have been included on this album! A little treat for Miley's fans and followers, and all those rockers!
