Hey everyone,
Today's music video review is actually a music collaboration with singer/songwriter Mabel and Pokemon! The song was released on 16th July 2021 and here is my review!
At the start of the video Mabel can be seen walking around the room, lying on the bed and looking for a programme to watch. She stumbles across a channel which has a Pokemon movie on and decides to have that playing in the background whilst she starts to fall asleep on the bed. Some of the opening lyrics which she sings include 'I can break a promise, but I sweat to God I love you', signifying that although people may have trust issues with her after agreeing to empty promises, she does love whoever this individual is that she is singing about. She goes on to sing the lyrics 'If you need someone by your side, you know what to do' which should be a sign of comfort for this individual, as although Mabel isn't telling the world who he or she is, they know that Mabel has only the best intentions for them and will be there as support when needed!
In the music video she can be seen dancing alongside Jigglypuff, from the Pokemon franchise, and they seem to be playing a game of hide and seek. Mabel's outfit for the next part of the music video sees her in a matching sparkly top and trouser set with a funky hairstyle, singing the lyrics 'if you wanna take it, take it home', which seems to hint about somebody taking her back to their home. There are a lot of bright lights in this part of the video and it seems like the environment of the video is quite posh with everything looking quite expensive and fancy.
She is seen dancing with her backing dancers and singing the words 'where do we come where do we go now' almost trying to decide what she wants to do with the next part of her day. One of the most exciting parts of the music video is where there is a camera flip effect, showing Mabel wearing a tight black outfit on one side of the bed with her hair down, and the other side is her in the sparkly outfit from an earlier scene of the video. There are a variety of blended shots showing her in different outfits, in the hotel, dancing with backing dancers and the included visuals of Pikachu and Jigglypuff as part of this collaboration with the brand. At the end of the video, she can be seen in a yellow and pink outfit, representing the characters in real form, with the lift closing and then Mabel looking directly into the camera from the previous shot of her in the hotel room.
