Hey everyone,
For today's review, I am watching a music video called 'Let Them Know' by Mabel who's already released her debut album called 'High Expectations' which I must say, I absolutely loved! I believe this is a new single that could be from her unreleased second album, so watch this space!
At the beginning of the music video, Mabel is seen riding in a taxi wearing a bright yellow dress and showing off her pink hair. She seems to be playing around with her phone and explained to the taxi driver that she left her phone at the nightclub, calling it 'wild'. She entered the club which was now empty, probably thinking about what happened the night before. The opening shots see Mabel showing off her new look whilst standing in a black and white box, wearing her bright coloured dress. The opening lyrics include 'I got a new man in my business, and he all about his business...his name ain't none of your business' show that she seems to be in a new happy relationship, but it's not something that she's going to reveal anytime soon. She goes on to explain that people can run their mouth about her, but she can 'stand and pose' as any attention is good attention when you're in the public eye. She adds the words 'let them know because you're that b*tch' which are motivational lyrics for women to have confidence in themselves and not let any negativity affect them.
Throughout the video she is seen wearing a variety of different club outfits and is seen performing at multiple areas of a busy nightclub. She says 'I stay on my Queen sh*t, up here the haters look teeny tiny' which explain that she is focusing on being the best she can be, and anybody that is saying anything critical of her won't affect her, and is almost 'below her'. This part of the music video sees Mabel dancing with 4 of her backing dancers, holding onto railings and pictured with red squares and bright lights in the background which make the quiet atmosphere feel more lively! She also sings the lyrics 'pony tails to the waistline...money talks and I make mine' which simply refers to girls letting their hair grow as long as possible, or potentially hinting at using hair extensions, and that she is clearly making some good money by just focusing on her career, social media platforms and probably brand deals that are also unannounced at the moment.
The final shots see that she is flirting with a man, but one of her female friends seems to guide her to a different direction in the club. There are continued shots of black and white boxes with Mabel appearing as the main feature, and at the end of the music video, the words 'Mabel Good Luck' appeared on the radio, so that could be a hint of her new single, or the second album title that she hasn't announced yet!
