Lilly Ahlberg 'Call Me' - EP Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all!

Another EP release, another EP review! This one is called 'Call Me' and it has 6 songs on. After touring with YouTube star Emma Blackery, she's now continued to release original content! Without further ado, let me review the songs!

1 - 'Call Me'

I think this song is a throwback to some of the previous boys that Lilly had feelings for; including Charlie from McDonalds and a guy from the supermarket. In the song she speaks about how these people should have called her, but obviously didn't...I guess the meaning behind the sng is that if you promise to call somebody, just do it...rather than forgetting or making some form of excuse. Lilly, you're better than these guys, don't worry about it!

2 - 'Why Do I Miss You'

The lyrics in the song speak about how Lilly is enjoying where she is in life, but she keeps thinking about someone who she used to be in love with asking herself why she misses someone. 'Why do I miss you when we had so many issues' are some of the lyrics in the chorus which makes the song more relatable as although people can move onto new relationships, but there is always a voice reminding you about memories from your previous love encounters.

3 - 'Moonlight'

The lyrics of this song describe her life as being a 'turbulance'; meaning that it goes up and down, and that it's turning people way from her! She thinks it's something in the moonlight that's making her this way and adds that it's difficult to cope with her day to day life. This could a spiritual song where she is asking the environment around her to give her blessings, or she has faith in something that her life will go back to some form of normality. I like the 'Na na ehh na na ohh' in the chorus of the song as it makes it seem like an international song...somehow!

4 - 'Naked'

'I don't want to use my imagination to see you naked' are the opening lyrics of this song, so clearly she's fallen in love with somebody and wants to get on with it...In the song it seems like she is obsessing over somebody, by stating that she sees this person's face all the time and also paints nothing, but this lucky boy! She also explains that she wants to take this person to heaven, so maybe that means get into a relationship, die together..and then they can both go together! Bit deep, but it's almost like she's thinking into the future and imagining that this lucky man is her partner!

5 - 'Hurting'

I believe this song is about a breakup that's happened in Lilly's life, but the song title refers to the feeling of the other person. She says that she wants to help the guy get over her and she doesn't like to see him when he's hurting...'All you wanted was to be in love, but that's not enough'......'Wish that I could help you get over me you love me more than I deserve' are some of the lyrics she sings, and although it's an emotional song, she says that she misses this person and that he's 'done nothing wrong'! It's one of those difficult songs, especially if you love somebody...but remaining friends doesn't exactly seem like a bad thing, because at least the person is still in your life? Sometimes it might just be a little bit awkward if you know it won't progress into anything further, but this was a realy passionately sang song!

6 - 'Fool'

The sixth and final song on the EP is called 'Fool'. She sings the words 'Why do you make me a fool for you' which could signify that there was a toxic relationship happening between Lilly and an ex lover who she admits didn't want her to stay, but still made her stay in love. I feel like these sorts of songs remind me of people that use iother people for their own pleasure or they just want to mess with people's minds...to feel like they're in control. It's a difficult situation to be in, especially if you feel bad for staying in love with somebody, but it's just natural to want to stay with that person. Luckily any relationships or love encounters I have had weren't forced, but they just naturally broke off, and that's how love should be!

This was a great EP of 6 previously released songs (including Moonlight from 2019), but this was the first time I have heard all the singles. I think my favourite songs on the EP were 'Call Me', 'Naked' and 'Fool'! Until the next music review, goodbye!
