Lana Condor & Anthony De La Torre 'No Way' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all,

For today's music video reaction I'll be looking at another song by Lana Condor, but this time alongside her partner Anthony De La Torre for their new single 'No Way'.

At the beginning of the music video there was an interesting introduction shot of them both sitting on the sofa, followed by other shots where they were sitting or standing in one position rather than moving around - including back to back, Anthony sitting in a cage with Lana on the floor infront of him and a variety of other still shots that were able to convey meaning through their facial expressions and the lyrics of the song. I also noticed a lot of colours throughout the first part of the music video, including flashing lights from behind the palm trees that had towards the back of the shot. There were also some nightclub types of shots with the camera zooming in and out, and both Anthony and Lana sometimes looking at the camera, eachother or away into the distance.

Both of their outfits matched, as they were both wearing mainly white and black - with Anthony also rocking a pair of black trousers and white shoes. One of the next shots I wanted to focus on was when they were both standing infront of what looked like a chair with a heart shape outline filling the frame. It was quite a nice touch as it added a little bit of romance to the shot, and they were both accompanied by a lot of beautiful greenery in the background and candles on the table which made the shot more homely. We saw another shot of them both sitting back to back with their eyes closed alongside pink lights in the background which helped shine the attention on them.

The lyrics in this part of the song were 'I don't want to like you, but I like you...no way I'm letting you slip away' which could identify that they may have started off as friends and it's naturally developed into a relationship between the two of them as they might have become more interested in one another after seeing eachother appear in films. One of the other really cool shots is where we can see them holding hands but also pulling away from eachother, with more palm trees in the background as this brings in a lot of natural sunlight for Anthony and make this particular shot look incredible. The other lyrics I wanted to analyse were 'call me baby, I think I could get used to the way you make me, feel like there's something to use' which is a line that is sung in a pattern, rather than a stand way that a verse of lyrics are sung together, almost teasing the audience without giving too much away...and also teasing enough but without actually making out through the entire video. Towards the end there are more flashing lights, with both of them looking into the camera and focus was drawn back to shots of 2 shirts on a stand, so is this particular an outfit that they want to wear on a special night out? Date night? Engagement? Who knows? But either way, I really liked the concept of this music video and it's great to see so many young singers, songwriters, artists and those not even from those industries, getting into songwriting and being able to show their creativity through multiple forms, rather than just the one that helped give them a platform!
