Hey everyone!
A new music video has been released by Justin Bieber for his new song called 'Hold On', soon to be released on his upcoming album 'Justice' which will be released on 19th March 2021! I've been a massive supporter of Justin and his music, since his early days when he was discovered on YouTube, so thought I'd see what he's been upto over a decade later! Remember one of his first singles 'Baby'? I feel like that was only released 5 years ago...anyways, here's my review for his new song!
At the beginning of the music video there are a variety of night shots that show Justin speeding away from the police on a motorbike, and no explanation as to why he seems to be trying to escape. Some of his opening lyrics include the lines 'you know you can call me if you need someone', which is a clear message that he's arms are open wide if this individual needs help or support in anyway, and that he'll be there for them. Other lyrics include 'I need you to hold on, heaven isn't a place that is far away' which I wasn't able to analyse as soon as the lyrics were sang, but after finishing the entire music video, I think he's trying to get his lover to try and hold on as she seems to be battling cancer. There are a variety of shots of Justin in love with a girl, with lots of giggling and cuddling, with some pink and blue night shots, but with the emotions that can be seen on both of their faces, they are trying to hdie that something bad is happening.
During the middle of the music video, you can see Justin carrying his lover into the living room, and it seems as if they have created their own sleeping space in the living room. Seconds later, he walks into the garage, spray paints a gun, and practices holding and pointing the gun. He drives off to a bank and quietly walks up to the front, pushing a note that says 'I don't wanna hurt anyone' under the cashier to an elderly lady who is wearing glasses on the other side. She begins to give him money out of the cash point, and presses her big red button which alerts the security guards who try and chase after Justin, but he's quick on his motorbike and manages to get away.
There are a variety of shots which show Justin sitting in the hospital and pushing the love of his life in a wheelchair. There are more shots of Justin speeding down the road on his motorbike, and some of their memories are shown on the screen. Towards the end of the music video, Justin is shot by a policeman, but he is still able to drive away once more. Whilst he is in the hospital room with his love, there are emotional shots of him looking out of the window, and the entire video is not in chronologial order, as it seems to go backwards and forwards in time. His female lover seems to be struggling to survive towards the final shots, and Justin seems to be speeding on his motorbike to get into the emergency entrance for the hospital to see his love one more time. He can be seen speeding down the corridor with seeral security guards and policeman chasing after him. The final shots of the music video sees Justin jump onto his lover at the end of the video, with two of the policeman standing and watching his final moves - and it looks like the gun that he had was fake, as it fell to the ground. The music video was very emotional and quite complicated to work out the meaning for, but it highlights the importance of trying to spend as much time as you can, with those who have their life shortened by diseases and other lifelong medical issues!
