Hey all,
I thought I would write a short summary of a documentary that I decided to watch several months ago, about one of my favourite people who went from being an ordinary bar maid from Dagenham, Essex, to being one of the most famous members of a girlband. Jesy Nelson was one of the 4 members of Little Mix, the first girlband to make it past week 2 on The X Factor UK, and also the first band to win the show!
Throughout the documentary, Jesy revisits old memories from her childhood and growing up, before she reached fame...explaining that when she was thrown into the spotlight, she was abused online for her weight, how she looked compared to the other girls in the group, and also admitted that she was forced into using social media (which is something that she describes throughout the 1 hour documentary as having it's pro's and con's). In the documentary she speaks to parents of a 16 year old called Sian who sadly took her life back in 2018, she speaks to a lady called Liz who helps Jesy to understand why she hated the old Jesy, and what she can do to try and change the perception everybody had of her, and she also speaks to various young people going through similar experiences, discusses personal life at home with her boyfriend Chris Hughes and also how she finally comes to terms with the person she is today, admitting that it has been a tough journey, but that if she can get through it, anybody can!
It's available to watch on BBC Three, but I'm sure you can find it online somewhere too! Although for me it was very difficult to watch, I'm glad I did, because I got to see the side of Jesy that wasn't necessarily showed in the media. Jesy also won an NTA award in January 2020 and the acceptance speech can be watched below!
