JC Stewart 'When The Light Hits The Room' - EP Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey all!

I was going to start this post by saying 'I've been following JC' but that sounds a little creepy, but I meant in terms of his social media presence...although I'm not sure who I follow anymore since I've come away from social media, but yeah, he released an EP yesterday with a total of four songs and I thought I'd listen and analyse them! That's about it really!

1 - 'Rest Of My Life'

In this song I think he speaks about his collection of past lovers and doesn't want to continue having 'random people in his bed' as he's 'broken too many hearts' and instead wants to find that lucky person to spend the rest of his life with. There are some really nice musical 'Na na's in the song both at the beginning and at the end of the chorus. His voice in this song is really soothing and to be honest I can relate to him...I just want to find somebody who gets me, rather than constantly meeting new people who I don't have anything in common with. Especially during the lockdown of 2020, a song like this is definitely something that could motivate people to try and not give up hope in finding love, and it's a great start to the EP!

2 - 'Valium'

I'm not sure what a Valium is, but it's definitely not a chemical symbol! According to Google it's a 'drug used for its calming properties; used to treat things like anxiety or muscle spasms'. I believe this is another one of those love songs where he is thinking about a special person who's he might have been in some form of relationship with, especially with the lyrics 'you have come and gone' and 'now you're just another number in my phone' - a similar meaning to the previous song on the album, but this one seems a little bit deeper in emotion as it describes losing somebody, rather than looking for that special somebody.

3 - 'Friday Night'

Friday is the best day of the week as it's basically the weekend and you're able to party without worrying about going to work the day after (unless you work on weekends...obviously!), but yeah anyways back to the song! In the song he 'wishes it was Friday night' where he is able to go out, cut loose and get with anybody! It's a really emotional song as it borders on the level of a ballad. It's a simple song, but a nice song!

4 - 'Hard To Believe'

The fourth and final song on the EP is called 'Hard To Believe', which could be a realisation song, but I'm listening to it now! 'A girl like you shouldn't love a boy like me' are some of the lyrics in the song, but I'm not too sure what the meaning behind it is? Is she a good girl and he's a bad boy? Or the other way round?? Maybe this song is a self confidence issue song, where he doesn't think he is good enough to be with this particular girl, which is a sad thing to be singing about, but self reflecting is a good thing to do, because it helps you try and treasure what you've got! I don't know JC personally, although it would be great to sing some songs with him, as he has an amazingly beautiful voice, but it was definitely a nice way to end the EP. I do hope that in his future music and potentially other collaborations that he manages to sing through the struggles he may have faced in his life, be happy with 'the one' and be making great memories with the lucky girl! And he's only 23, so if he's been heartbroken at such a young age, I'm sure he will definitely grow into the greatest man he can be!

That's all for the EP review today, but definitely a great collection of songs and I am excited to see what other music he brings out soon!
