Hey all!
I thought I would write another music review! This is from an artist called Jafaris who I've not heard of before, BUT 2020 has been a difficult time for many and I loved the EP artwork, I thought I would right about the songs!
1 - 'Glue'
The first song on the album blends a mixture of rapping and singing about the artists first experience of love, and the trauma he went through after it didn't work out and sings lyrics including; 'That thing was perfect and you was worth it'. The song seems like an after thought that has happened after the relationship, but he just feels a little empty now that the lover has gone.
2 - 'Haunted'
The next song is called 'Haunted' and it's a faster paced some compared to the previous one. He admits that time can't stop and he's unable to go back to the relationship he was in previously, but feels that his previous lover is haunting him, preventing him from being able to move on. The song quickly transitions into a creepy but creative chorus with interesting background instruments and softly sung vocals. He also goes on to compare this previous lover stays in his head, like a bedroom light...a form of energy that you can't seem to ignore, but I really like this song! It involves emotional singing and slow rapping which is a good blend for this type of song!
3 - 'Beggar'
At the beginning of this song, we hear a short remake of a weather forecast, before the first verse begins! 'Beggars can't choose' is a phrase that was mentioned in the first verse, further explaining that he wants to choose this lucky individual everytime. It's another fast paced song with a mix of instruments in the background which adds multiple levels to the song, and it works really well together (especially with what sounds like trombones or a clarinet...not sure what's playing)!
4 - 'Big Baby'
In the song, he admits that he is sad (hence the song title name); but also says that if anybody asks him how he feels, he says 'blessed' because he obviously doesn't want to go into detail about how he actually feels. I believe this is something that others can relate to, especially if you don't want people to worry about you. 'I let go of you months ago, but you're still on my mind' are some of the lyrics in the song, which again is a similar feeling that other people can relate to. Although a relationship is physically over, you still have memories and thoughts about those people...but it's interesting how he calls himself a big baby, when instead it's fine to allow your emotions to flow, because it means you care.
5 - 'Frustrated'
In the song he admits that he is often quite angry and would rather be 'beaten black and blue because he can't deal with it' - but it was a very short song with multiple voices saying (Mood); probably a tease of an unreleased song...
6 - 'Mood'
And that previous song transitioned into the song called 'Mood', which was also a song just over a minute, probably another demo which will eventually be released into a full song. He shares a toast to the coaches and teachers that have helped him become the man he is today; also stating that he's never done drugs or 'sold dope' (which is a good thing; or sometimes a bad thing if you're someone who thinks about the FOMO), but each to their own. Again, the song reflects on situations that have happened in his life, but it seems to be a demo version of the song only, with more to come eventually?
One of the reasons I like listening to EP's is because you're able to connect with new creators and work out their story, before they become famous and release more generic music about how their lives have changed. Without record labels or other influences, you're able to understand an individuals past, how they eventually grow and develop, and once they've hit the big stage, then you can see that progression through their music! I think there seemed to be 4 full songs on this EP with a few teasers for other songs that may be unfinished, so let's see what else will be released by Jafaris soon! I rate this EP though!
