Hey everyone!
For today's music video, I am going to reviewing a music video for a new song called 'Put It To Bed' by J Hart, and I'm not too sure where I discovered this song. I think while I was scrolling on Spotify, it was one of the recommended songs, so I listened to it...and I loved it! Here's my review of the 5 minute long music video!
I was a little unsure what the music video was going to entail as it was 5 minutes long, but I understood that the first few minutes introduced the song and helped to set the scene. There was a lady in a white dress who was casually walking down a corridor, speaking without even moving her lips, almost as if she was a robot, and explained to J Hart that she could help him fix his relationship with his partner, if he was to take part in an experiment. Within the first few minutes, he turned into a blonde lady wearing a pink dress, who seemed to be quite distant from her partner in the music video, but this particular moment felt like something out of the movie Avatar, or something from a computer game! You could see that both individuals looked quite awkward around eachother, but I think that's because J Hart was slowly getting into character. The pair went from ignoring eachother completely to being on top of eachother in the bedroom, which was an interesting transition to see, and it all happened because J Hart probably felt more emotionally connected with the character he was portraying.
Some of the lyrics at this point included 'standing in seperate corners, taking our time with the torture...which are lyrics that are probably highlighting the torture of not being able to speak about their differences, and maybe if they go to the bedroom, they'll be able to forget about the bad things and focus on the good. J Hart goes on to sing 'why can't we put it to bed', which is the literal phrase of 'let's go to bed' but also, when you put something to bed or to sleep, it means, to forget about something. One of the interesting parts of the music video which was purposeful to include, but didn't stay on the screen for too long, was that the man in the experiment with the female version of J Hart, ended up being topless, and lying on top of him outside of the 'love game'...and it was interesting to see how touchy feeling both of the guys ended up getting with eachother. I must admit that I am still a little confused as to whether the blonde girl might be J Hart's current partner, or whether he was imagining himself with a guy, because he's gay, but he feels that it's easier for him to connect with somebody if he was in a female body or showcased his female persona?
The final lyrics that I wrote down included 'you and I are just going in circles again...and I don't know why you don't want to undress this mess' which again, are lyrics that could easily be related to sex, speaking of the 'undressing', but also to undress the mess of their relationship on a more literal tone. I think a lot of relationships and couples do have their issues when they don't explain those issues with eachother but continue as if there are no problems, so maybe the whole experiment was to see whether both sides could admit their problems and try to deal with the situation in an adult way. A lot of the shots of J Hart towards the end are seen with a bright pink background which helps his character and shape be seen more easily. I think the best part of the music video, is that after all the kissing and hugging, J Hart somehow manages to appear inside the love game alongside the guy who was part of the experiment, with the female robot at the end, looking at him as if she managed to achieve something amazing, but it was him who put in the hard work by just thinking positively and trusting her process!
