GOT7 'Encore' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey everyone!

This new music video review is a new song by GOT7, a South Korean music group with 7 male members! They released this video on 20th February 2021 and I thought I would do a review, as it's the first video on the channel and they have already got over 1.19 million subscribers and over 4 million total views on the video!

To start the video, some of the opening lyrics are 'feels like we're still kids, but the world calls us adults' which makes it seem as if they're all just having so much fun working, because they're still able to mess around and have fun, unlike in an ordinary job outside of the music industry. A lot of the opening clips are in black and white and you can see the boys getting ready to record the single as they are all seen in the music room waiting to perform the record again, and they're all wearing face coverings which shows that this was a lockdown made music video! One of the boys since the lyrics 'have we forgotten that time when we made a promise?', which made me believe that they had made a promise to their fans, and in this video, it was their time to explain what that promise was.

The video goes on to show all of the boys at a party, drinking, eating food, hanging out with eachother and videio logging the 'behind the scenes' content from the music video, as well as shots of them practicing and performing the song in the music studio, with a variety of different types of clips. In the middle, there is a shot of one of the boys at the party which blurred silhouette's of some of the other boys and it looks really cool to see the transitions, but also the focus on each of them independently. One of the other lyrics at this point in the song is 'we will sing for you' which makes it very clear that they are singing to their fans, although they are unable to actually perform for them, with 'encore' being the chat to continue singing again and again and again!

Around halfway through the music video, 'Double B' is seen wearing a black top and facing sideways with a brown piece of furniture in the background, creating quite a unique backdrop for the filming and again, it's a nice transition shot compared to some of the other shots in the music video. There is also a short scene which has flash photography showing that photographs are being taken, and also extra content might have been captured for them to look back on after the music video was complete.

We then saw a video segment from the boys where they explained that they 'wanted to express our feelings through a song...' adding that 'us and our fans...what are we? we are ONE!' and that no matter how difficult the situation is for everybody, this is a new experience and it will eventually all be over, allowing them to perform once again. The music video draws to a close with black and white shots of the boys performing to a large audience of people holding up lights/torches and phones, along with flashing lights from the stage, lots of cheer from the fans and also confetti falling from the sky, to celebrate the days of live concerts before the pandemic began, and reminding people to stay safe, but things will eventually go back to how they were before!
