Hey everyone,
For today's music video I will be reviewing a new song that Little Mix are a part of, alongside Galantis and David Guetta. The song is called 'Heartbreak Anthem' and it's the second song (after 'Confetti' featuring Saweetie) that doesn't feature Jesy Nelson, who sadly left the band at the end of 2020 to take some time away from being in the spotlight and focus on her personal life.
In the music video, the opening shots show a shot of an owl pictured in the middle of the screne, and the other artists are introduced in an old fashioned kind of way with what sounds like historical backing music. Jade's opening lyrics include the words 'hey it's me your ex, I call to say I'm not sorry, but I wish you the best' which almost makes this sound like a song that's just to check in on somebody who could have brought bad vibes, but still was an important part of the development of the girls' journey to this point, and they think they should check in with this person. The girls are all wearing a variety of different outfits which all seem to have wings, which was the title of the first single that the girls released after winning The X Factor back in 2011, so they almost created a throwback song without even realising!
Perrie's lyrics continue on to say 'you did what you had to, I don't have time to dwell on it' which suggest that they understand that things happen for a reason, but instead of continuing to think about it, they're moving on with their lives or new relationships. They go on to sing 'this ain't a heartbreak anthem, I don't care what happened' which is a different vibe for a music video for Little Mix because they usually do want to sing songs about heartbreak or breakng up from ex's, whereas in this song they explain that they don't care what happened, and it's more of a celebration that they are able to move on with their lives. Throughout these scenes, there is a lovely purple triangle with blue spotlights in the background which makes the scene look really cool!
In Jade's second verse, she sings the words 'I'm wearing this bulletproof vest, but I'll be ok' which suggests that she might still be feeling emotional about what has happened, but the fact that she has a vets on means that she is protected, and Leigh-Anne sings the lyrics 'maybe we'll fix this and maybe we won't' which also hints at the fact, that their number one aim isn't to fix this situation, but if they are able to at least come to a mutual agreement then that would be good enough. There are lots of fast paced shots of the girls on the stage, in various circle seats and on the stage with various colours and spotlights appearing during the video, almost giving the music video a nightclub vibe. At the end of the video, the three girls can be seen sitting on a circle swing, before the camera pans out to an iPad that also has another owl on it! Hopefully that is a hint for a new single or they all just really like owls...
