Hey all! From Britain's Got Talent, singing about their 'Lighters' to now releasing more original music. Gabz already got the hearts of the nation, and it's safe to say I remember most of the lyrics to some of their older songs. In this little music review, I'm just going to be listening to to the 5 tracks on the new EP called 'Self Destruct'! Let's go!
1 - 'Crash'
The first song is called 'Crash' where Gabz instantly speaks about how they listens to songs on the radio where people often speak about their relationships, and thought they should give it a go! They speak in this song about when they used to enjoy filling up stadiums, seeing the flashing lights and millions of eyes, but when the crowds go, not wanting to go home, and to get over the sadness, they drink to get over those feelings! They admit to not being able to seeing the darkness as they was in the light, and this could relate to the days after they found fame on television, and now unable to see the lifestyle from a different perspective. In the song it sounds as if they are singing about how some of the limelight isn't all as it seems, but at the end of the day, once you make a name for yourself, you just have to brave it...and yoou don't have to do what everybody else is doing!
2 - 'Peak' (Interlude)
This little interlude describes how they got their first peak at fourteen years old, and at the end, reveals they didn't get a first peak, but teass that there is a lot more to give. I'm excited for this new version of Gabz!
3 - 'Self Destruct'
This is the album's main song which explains that they often 'self destruct'. The intro verse transitions into a rap verse (which is something I eventually would love to do!) A one man band, with my own band...I'm planning...slowly! They go on to sing about how everyone has difficult times but you've got to keep your head up. In the song, I think the idea of self destruction just means you need to take a break and start being creating again the next day. 'It's hard to realise, under your disguise' are some of the other lyrics sung in this song, which relate to the current world we are currently in. I think a lot of people hide their emotions rather than speaking up and letting people into their lives, by instead just shutting them out. I can admit that this is something I used to do, but I've now developed the confidence to speak to people when I don't feel great! It's a strong message to give out to the world.
4 - 'No Consequences'
'I know I'll regret this in the morning' are some of the opening lyrics to this song, which is something that a lot of people can probably relate to. I think the song speaks about nights out where on the night everything is great and people drink, but then you forget about the consequences of how you're going to feel the day after! In the song, I think the overall mood is that there's nothing wrong with having fun and doing whatever you want, and sometimes forgetting about the consequences can lead to you having a more relaxed night. Again, I love the transition from singing to rap in this song, and all of the backing instruments made me bop my head throughout the whole song. I also really like some of the backing vocals as it sounds like there's 4 different Gabz' singing at the same time!
5 - 'Break up Song'
The final song on the EP is called 'Break up Song' where they have decided to move on from a relationship that they were in, asking 'why do you hate me?' to the lover being sung about. At the end of the song, they continue to sing lyrics including 'you're a loser, and a cheat and you know what you did to me' - so, it seems like somebody needs to change their ways. Break ups and relationships are always difficult things to find, be in and then to forget about in such a short space of time, so it's good to see a more emotional side to Gabz, as we usually see them speaking about nice things, but this was a great end to the EP and I'm looking forward to more music soon!
