Dua Lipa 'We're Good' - Music Video Review

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Hey everyone!

For today's music video review I will be watching and analysing Dua Lipa's new single 'We're Good'. She released her latest album 'Future Nostalgia' in 2020, with a deluxe version being released on 11th February 2021. Without any further delay, here's my written review for the new song!

To open the music video, there are a variety of religious images and paintings on the wall shot from different angles to help set the scene. Instantly, I feel as if this particular venue are people that high class, professionals or rich...just by looking at the environment and decorations around the room. Dua's opening lyrics are 'I'm on an island even when you're close' which could identify that although she is able to make love and be with somebody, she still wants to get away and have time to herself. She is seen wearing a shiny silver dress, with matching earrings and other jewellery, with the background behind her almost being the same colour. She is also accompanied by a small band who perform with her throughout the entire video. There are lots of crabs that can be seen with knots in a fish tank, so this could be the main focus of the video, as they are shown every few moments. Dua seems to be a high class singer in the restaurant and clearly is able to put on a show, and during the first part of the music video she is seen waving at the crabs, before they get taken out one by one and eaten by the guests.

In another scene, she is wearing a new outfit, which consists of a green dress and has several female backing dancers to accompany her. Some of the lyrics she sings include 'this wouldn't be a burden if we both don't hold a grudge' which could explain that if they are both talking to other people it shouldn't be a problem...and they shouldn't see it as a reason to hate one another. She goes on to sing 'I think it's pretty plain and simple, we gave it all we could', simply stating that they've tried to give the relationship as much attention as they could, but it's a shame that it can;t go any further, hinting that she doesn't want to waste anymore time trying to fix something. During this part of the music video, you see a lot of zoomed in shots of people eating crabs, smiling, cheering and giggling, and then you see close up shots of a crab in the fish tank. I'm not too sure what the link is between the crabs, Dua and the music video, but they seem to be the main attraction, and it's almost like they want to try and cause chaos, as crabs are usually seen as dangerous animals. There also seems to be a pipe malfunction in the kitchen, with one of the chef's stating that there seems to be a problem with the stove...and secretely, I think the crab managed to work out a way of not being cooked and eaten, by somehow cutting out the electricity!

The final part of the music video shows the entire restaurant being flooded with all of the crabs being able to swim around, no guests, but the remaining items of theirs floating around the water, and there is a final shot of a boat in the background of the video that has sunk into the ocean, but all of its lights are still on. The one final thing that brings the video to an end, is one puff of pink fireworks that are seen to be coming out of the ship where Dua Lipa must have been performing. She is seen with some of her dancers on a rescue boat quite far away, so maybe her plan is to perform, and then escape!
