Britain's Got Talent (2020) - The Finale

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Today was the Britain's Got Talent 2020 finale! So far we know the first 5 finalists who won each of their semi finals respectively; Steve Royle, Aaron & Jasmine, Magical Bones, Jon Courtenay and Nabil Abdulrashid! It was revealed that another 5 acts would partake in the final, as chosen by the general public. During a variety of interviews, Amanda Holden also revealed there were a 'great line up of entertainment and performances', so I've got my eyes and ears peeled!

Aidan McCann, Jasper Cherry, Sign Along With Us, Damien O'Brien and James & Dylan were the 5 other acts who made the finale as they were all voted in by the general public!

The first act of the grand finale was Aidan McCann who performed from his home in Dublin, Ireland for the semi finals and is the youngest BGT 2020 finalist! To begin the trick, Aidan asked David to choose a colour queen and a suit, to which, the card appeared in Aidan's hand...and the other three cards he was holding were blank. David was asked to then select a word from his collection of words and was about to have his mind read...He tried to guess the word David picked, ('Eat'), wrote down the word 'Fart' to prank the audience and made everyone giggle at the end! Amanda Holden added that is was a very clever trick and that she would love to see David's reaction when he watches it back, with Ashley banjo saying the performance was great, especially because he only had a pack of cards and a piece of paper!

Up next was Aaron & Jasmine, a dance duo who after receiving a golden buzzer, also won their semi final heat and earned a place in the BGT final! From their semi final to their grand finale performance, Alesha Dixon admitted they were in 'fifth gear' and 'delivered for the final'. There was fire, which the public usually always love, the music was a lot more tense than their previous performance and the dance choreography was very fast and ferocious! They also ended the performance on a high when they were tangled in the ropes to draw their performance to a close! It was a great performance, but will it be enough to earn the £250,000 grand prize?

The second magician of the night was Damien O'Brien who wanted to create one more mesmorising performance, which he did! With the use of boxes, phones, magic and string, he managed to baffle all four of the judges. He asked Amanda to choose a card, ripped off the corner, and that corner of the card revealed on Damien's Instagram page...but how did he do it? - And after Amanda's phone went missing, it was wrapped up in string in a box on the stage, which was guarded by Ant & Dec for the whole performance! I haven't got a clue how he did it, but it was definitely a tough act to follow!

Steve Royle was the fourth act to perform in the live finale, and he was also Amanda Holden's golden buzzer! His performance was such a confusion, but he was very funny! He started with a joke about Rishi Sunak, who has recently told people that if their current job isn't suitable that they should change career...but Steve admitted that it's not possible for him, because he just loves comedy - and Alesha Dixon admitted that she didn't like being picked on, but would love to see Steve Royle at the Royal Variety Performance 2020! - At the end of the performance, he said he initially was going to come onto the stage and do a bit of painting to prove that he has some transferrable skills, again, something that a lot of people have been trying to impress to try and get a job during the coronavirus pandemic! He's a comedy genius, and he'll definitely get to the final 3 at least!

The next performance was by Magical Bones who won the third Britain's Got Talent semi final! His wife featured as a dancer at the beginning of his performance, and he included his interest of street dancing into his performance...before transforming himself from one side of the stage, to the other! Ashley Banjo offered for a collaboration in the future, David Walliams admitted that in the final, the acts have to stand out, and he most certainly did that!

There was an important break from the performances to raise awareness on #WorldMentalHealthDay, promoting the importance of mental health issues with people unknowingly have or feel that they are unable to speak about. In the promotional video, one of the men added that 'help lines are lifelines' and the mental health charities need support, which could save a life!

The 6th act to perform were Sign Along With Us, a dancing and singing sign language group! Another great performance, and another great rendition of a beautiful song; 'The Climb', by Miley Cyrus. The judges were all impressed with the performance, and Amanda described it as the ending scene of a movie after everythng works out, the curtains come down and the glitter begins to fall! Alesha Dixon admitted it was the best performance that they had performed for the judges, so will it be good enough for them to win?

James & Dylan Piper were the next magic act to perform, and pranked all the judges by pretending they were in a home studio...when actually they were in the studio the entire time and appeared in the studio! They asked each of the judges a question. They started with David, asking how much their grandparents shopping order came to, Alesha chose a word, Amanda chose the name of somebody who they would never know, and Ashley had to use a word to describe his Dad, to which they were all revealed! At the end of their performance, they managed to make the mother and twin brother appear from the middle of nowhere? Definitely a mind boggling performance, but they looked to energetic and enthusiastic the entire time! It was a great performance and they could potentially win the show?

Up next was comedian Nabil Abdulrashid, originally from South London! Appearing on the stage in his 'Unapologetically Black' t shirt, he definitely isn't afraid to show off his personality! Ashley Banjo's first comments were 'I've experienced complaints too!' - after his controversial performance with Diversity standing with those in the Black Lives Matter movement, and told Nabil that he could either bend to the pressure or be unapologetically himself, and it was pretty obvious that his was just himself! When reacting to the complaints from some viewers, he said he could have 'replied to the people that complained, with the words #AllViewersMatter, and see what they would have felt abpout that! Managing to include jokes about jerk chicken, statues and religion, his performance will definitely be a memorable one! At the end of his performance he had a few cheeky one liners which included 'If I win the show tonight, I'll be the first black guy to wn...and you know what they say, once you go black you never come back...but once you go to Nigeria, no-one can meet the criteria! David Walliams admitted that the only complaint he had was that the performance was too funny! Nabil's career is most certiainly not going to end after the show...and if anything, he's given himself a massive platform for which his comedy will hopefully progress at a fast pace!

Act number 9 was another comedian...14 year old Jasper Cherry! Inspired by his surname, the performance was themed around his drinks stand CBC, and he was able to make a variety of different drinks with a simple pour of a carton, including Cherry Cola, Amanda's favourite Rose, beer and even Strawberry Milshake for David Walliams! It was an interesting and magical performance, but compared to some of the other magicians I'm sure not if it was SUPER enough to win!

The final act to perform was Ant & Dec's golden buzzer, Jon Courtenay, the final comedian who also plays the piano and sings! With an emotional performance to end the night, Jon's original song involved a lot of personal memories but also speaking about all the things we have had to get through as a nation! He was able to make people laugh and cry, according to Alesha Dixon, which she complimented with Jon being a 'perfect act' who 'too his chances' in his final performance! With his funny lyrics, the deep meaning behind the song was that people should be spending more time with their friends and family, especially with all the difficulty we have gone through! One of his lyrics mentioned Ant & Dec winning their first award in 1994, to which he said 'I know you won your award in 1995, but it didn't rhyme' which was a comedic touch to the end of the show!

My top three acts from this evening:

Steve Royle (Comedian), Nabil Abdulrashid (Comedian) and Jon Courtenay (Comedian)

After the adverts, we saw a great one-off theatrical performance created by Sir Cameron McIntosh who put together a great medley performance of songs from Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables & Mary Poppins! It was a great showcase of some of the best songs in theatre, and a message to the government to reopen threatres to allow people to get back to work!

The public chose their top three acts...

SIGN ALONG WITH US, JON COURTENAY and STEVE ROYLE

In third place was...Steve Royle!

In second place was...Sign Along With Us

The winner of Britain's Got Talent 2020 was...Jon Courtenay!

And that's all for the Britain's Got Talent 2020 updates this year!
