Britain's Got Talent (2020) - Semi Finals 5

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

The 8 acts that performed in the fourth semi finals were;

Aidan McCann

Nabil Abdulrashid

Beth Porch

Wesley Williams

Hakan Berg

Soldiers of Swing

Shalom Chorale and

Crissy Lee

The first act to perform was the 'Soldiers of Swing', two singing soldiers who transform ordinary songs into swing styled tunes! Their song for this evening was One Direction's 'Story of My Life'! It was a great performance, and an amazing start to the show!

Up next was 'Hakan Berg' a.k.a Swedish birdman! It was a very funny performance from the beginning all the way to the end, with a variety of singing, dancing and entertainment. As he was throwing the birds in the air, they began appearing on different parts of his body. He asked all the judges to say a different sentence to see what each of their spirit bird's are! With an interesting mix of magic added to his performance whilst asking the judges to 'put their birds' in different spaces, they all semmed memorised, and everybody was left in giggles!

'Shalom Chorale' were the next act to perform; (and no, not in a German graveyard, as stated by Dec)...the gospel choir featuring students, health care workers and created by Femi. Due to social distance measures, there was a pre recorded version of their performance showed to the judges. All of the choir was dressed in white outfits which brought a creative vibe to the song they were singing! All of their singing voices blended really well together, and it seemed to go down well with the judges and members of the public who were seen on the television wall!

'Wesley Williams' is probably the first unicyclist who has got through to the semi finals of BGT, but let's see how his performance fairs with the judges! Performing to Britney Spears' 'Toxic', he completed a variety of unicycle stunts, including cycling over a woman, parading around the stage on a very high unicycle and travelling up a set of stairs. In addition to this, he finished his performance with a very very very very high unicyle stunt, where he asked all of the judges to tell him whether to go forwards, backwards, left, right or to stop, and he travelled around basically the whole studio! It was very frightening to watch as he literally put his life at risk, but it will definitely be a memorable moment of 2020, along with COVID-19, obviously! Amanda admitted; 'If this is what you did for your semi final performance, what pants am I gonna have to wear for the final?' - with Ant & Dec adding that they were also very worried, especially because the video wall costs a lot of money!

The 5th act was super Nan on the drums; 'Crissy Lee'! After touring with The Beatles and even flying in their personal jet, she likes to continue proving people wrong, and continuing to break stereotypes as a successful female rock and roll drummer! She 'wow'ed' the judges and was even raised above the stage as she got more and more into the music! David described her as the 'real life gangster granny'; especially after taking on a drum cover with a song by Nirvana!

After receiving the Golden buzzer from Alesha Dixon, South London comedian 'Nabil Abdulrashid' was the 6th performer to take the BGT semi final stage! The video tape before his performance was shot like '73 Questions with Vogue' but he showed off his true personality even before his performance on the live stage! His first joke was about thanking Alesha after putting him through to the semi final, and being mistaken for Big Narstie at Lidl, in Croydon! His set highlighted the difficulties of COVID-19 including the lack of toilet paper, but having sun for the FIRST time in Summer made us all experience how a South African summer is. His jokes were very original, he was very funny and he even said at the end of his performance that comedy is subjective, and if any of his jokes offended anyone, that it wasn't him...it was Big Narstie! He is most certainly the BEST comedic I have seen on the BGT show before - with Alesha adding that 'we need to laugh a bit more', and Amanda stating that 'comedy should push us to the edge'.

The 7th act of the night was miniature magician 'Aidan McCann'. Due to COVID-19, the act had to be performed LIVE from his bedroom in Ireland! He used David as his guinea pig for the performance, asking him to choose a card! David chose a picture of Aidan as a superhero...which was also coincidentally delivered to David one week before his live performance in the semi finals...How magical!??!! The next part of the act was for David to show off his colouring in skills, whilst Aidan was blindfolded...Amanda opened a letter SHE received a week ago, and it was coloured in exactly the same. Just to prove that Aidan knew how David would choose the colours, he revealed his superhero costume...which also had the same colours; including the pink legs, orange shorts, red cape, green top and the 'A' coloured in blue! It was a very mind boggling performance, so let's see if he can get to the final! Ashley commented on his energy and charisma, praising him on his talent after completing the performance!

The final act of the night was front line PDA nurse and singer/songwriter 'Beth Porch'! The original song she performed was dedicated to her other NHS workers and colleagues as a 'morale song'...I think it was called 'We're the Everyday Heroes', as the NHS staff are saving lives every single day, especially during the pandemic of 2020! Her performance ended with a beautiful rainbow glowing above her head, which was a nice touch for the end of the performance!

My top three acts from this evening:

Beth Porch (Singer), Soldiers of Swing (Singers) and Nabil Abdulrashid (Comedian)

We had a very special performance by the one and only BGT judge Amanda Holden performing one of her new songs 'Not While I'm Around' from her 2020 album 'Songs From My Heart'. The album is to do with her girls, her husband and her life so far! Seen in her glamorous white dress, it was an amazing end to the final semi final!

The judges chose their top three acts...

NABIL ABDULRASHID, SHALOM CHORALE and WESLEY WILLIAMS

The judges had to pick their favourite act to send to the finale...

David Walliams chose NABIL ABDULRASHID

Alesha Dixon chose NABIL ABDULRASHID

Ashley Banjo chose NABIL ABDULRASHID

Amanda Holden chose WESLEY WILLIAMS, but the one vote wasn't enough for him to get through to the finale!

And that's Episode 5 complete. Until the final next week on the 10th October 2020, Goodbye for now!
